Talking how can I install driver to activate my eSATA port

Hi there

I am using a basic ASUS P5Q board with Windows Vista 32 bit OS. I am planning to format my current drive and install the OS from scratch. May I know what driver I need to load in order to activate the eSATA port on my motherboard ?
Because right now when I connect my external USB Hard Drive via eSATA cable cannot recognize the drive at all.

Please kindly advise.

You will never ever be able to get a plain USB external drive to work with ESATA. No driver will help. You need an "External SATA" drive. There are some drives that can do both as well as firewire.

AHCP is in the manual. If you haven't looked at a mobo manual in awhile, now is a good time. If you didn't know about AHCP, you may not know about some of the other features that you can take advantage of.

I'm actually unaware of AHCP. Did you accidentally mean AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface)?

Just to clarify, do you have an external enclosure with USB AND eSATA?

eSATA from my experience is plug and play and hot swappable when the HD is turned on, as I've booted from my vantec enclosed sata hd- so you wouldn't need any drivers.

If you're really desperate or the eSATA really doesn't work, you can always run it from one of your other mobo SATA ports (with an open case) and see if that works (that's what I do at the moment).
