I'd recommend just getting 92 rather than 89, there's only a 3 or 4 cent difference but its a much better value. the difference between 87 and 89 is around 5-6 cents i believe
How is 94 better for the environment? As for using 94 vs 87, assuming your car only requires regular, you're actually wasting a bunch of extra gas and are instead expelling unburnt fuel out of your tailpipe and into the air... whereas if you had used only regular, you'll get better mileage and technically be kinder to the environment.

what a load of shit.

I laugh at anyone who puts 87 into any car. if you're going to be a cheapass at least put in 89.

nothing but 94 goes into my cars or bikes. mind you my cars are both turbocharged.

How much is the cost of a new OEM Engine?? $7500?

$7500/15c... you need 50,000L of OCTANE 87 to cover the cost.... WTF?
trust me, brand new OEM motors are damn expensive.. even a small manual tranny for a nissan versa is $2600.

i can actually check at work to see how much a k20z3 is.. i think i can get a price from parts..

Man what the fuck.

I used to put the shittiest gas from domo in an AMG benz and never had one problem and that thing was force fed.

The only problem I had was the sunroof didn't work and I'm sure that had nothing to do with garbage gas.

Face it. Unless you have a turbo car, it's pointless. I've always used the worst gas that I could find. I even used farm gas a while ago in a Lexus sport utility when I was in the prairies.

cars that take premium gas have rated horsepower with premium gas. hp goes down with regular, that said, u dont need to put premium gas in cars that are premium only..

I'd like to think I've had a good amount of personal experience with octanes. My car, for the past year, had an AFM problem, requiring more than 94 octane once i upped the boost and installed an ARC TMIC.

This meant i had to start mixing my own 98 oct with 94 Chevron and Toluene.

My car does have a knock sensor. On straight 94, the car lost SO much power. The ecu would detect the knock, and pull the timing considerably to protect the motor.

My 280bhp car was about as slow as an 02 accord with 130 bhp... yes i compared the two.

If a car is rated for 91, i would put 91 in there. Its only a few cents.... big deal. Not worth damaging the motor.

You can start crying when you have to mix toluene into your fuel at 2.20/L like i did for 2 months before I managed to find a newer AFM.

Now the car will run on 94.

I think there was a news that Mercedes spokesman already stated their cars can be run on regular gas without damaging the car because they need their cars to be runnable worldwide..and some places dont have premium gas.

so no regular gas does not hurt your car

just because you have money doesnt mean you should waste it. If cheap gas will do then why not?

That's like saying to a mechanic "If cheap tools will do, why not?"

Just because it works, doesn't mean you should do it. Personally, if I were to ever buy a car with high compression or required premium gas, I would make sure that the previous owner knew that and followed the instructions.

this arguement doesn't hold at all.

So if you can afford a lamp, does that mean you should leave it on all night and waste energy just for the sake of it?

waste is waste, it has nothing to do with whether you can afford it or not, as long as it does no damage.

there so many people here who think that they know more about gas compared to the people in the article...it simply states that you don't really need to put premium unless its supercharged...plain and simple...so if people put in regular on a car that states that it needs premium, we don't need ass-remarks saying that they're a cheapskate or they're ruining that car since there's also no evidence that its ruining it...
boy...when you hit 20 in rs its like you know everything, everyone's wrong and when a reasonable point is given they go back in their pre-teens and start calling people names...
grow up...

How does it make no sense? The higher the octane, the higher its resistance to detonation (slower burning). If your engine is designed to run on 87, yet is constantly fed 94, it doesn't see any form of benefit in the guise of higher performance or better fuel mileage. Instead, because it's trying to run on fuel that has a higher detonation resistance, it tends to expel the excess fuel that it physically cannot burn straight into the Cat and out the tailpipe. And yes, while you never want to burn all of your fuel, all this is doing is spewing out even more unburnt gas than usual.

I'm insanely tired, so I know I'm not explaining it properly. However, I've said it before on these forums so if you're confused, feel free to try and search for my answer in a previous thread.

how come courtesy cars drive significantly shitter. i always thought that it was due to customers putting reg. gas
I recently got a loaner g35x 08 (auto) with exact spec as my car and the car drives really shitty. delays in acceleration and when i put into reverse, it takes like 2-3seconds before car responds to pedaling. ang also engine sound.

I could get into compression ratios, burn cycles... but I won't.

I'll continue to put 94 in my cars because I KNOW it is the proper thing to do.. not THINK. Have fun when you engine shits the bed, or you throw it on a dyno and wonder why it has such little power.

Some people do know what they're talking about, but since revscene is full of a bunch of people who seem to know it all... well then I'm not even going to try.

Have fun putting dirty gas in your $40,000 car. Oh, and don't forget to change your fuel filter... and clean your injectors.... and fuel line...

I think gas grade has nothing to do with being "clean" or not, it is the octane level in the gas, which has to do with the resistance to burn.

like I said the comments in article above came from Engineers from Toyota, Mercedes, and GM, and they have all stated that regular gas will do fine in modern cars. Since the comments come to experts in the car business I think they should be credible to certain degrees no?

you don't need premium gas unless it is supercharged?
so you're saying it is ok to put regular 87 octane gas in these cars?

you go keep thinking that...

I've seen in the tanks. the 87 tank is always dirtier than the 91/94 tanks.

And you don't need to explain octane ratings to me. I know aaaaall about them.. I drive a fucking rotary

you have a bit of a point, but not really. all the engines in those cars have much higher tolerances than you typical honda/nissan/mazda engine. they also most likely have very high compression, which in a sense would make it's burn cycle very similar to a forced induction car.
