| **ENGLISH 199W - Introduction to University Writing**
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone's taken this course before, or can give any comments about it?
Going to take it as a distant ed. course @ SFU.
Thanks.

I didn't really learn how to write better tbqh. Obviously there's a lot of writing to it, but the thing I found most annoying was that they make you summarize hard-to-follow and long pieces of writing. This made me feel like my reading comprehension sucked but the reading was just uuuuuggggh.
To sum it up though, it's not at all a hard course but is just time consuming so DO NOT take this course with another writing course.

It's the hardest 100 level english course to take, and it's time consuming like sexyflanders said.

I took Tech101W, which wasn't bad at all. We had a team presentation, so it wasn't entirely writing. Writing courses are easy, if you know how to write properly, most people don't (including me). Having said that, if you can't write at the level expected, you should take a W as soon as possible, so you can utilize what you learn in your other courses. It will definately benefit you in the long-run throughout your academic career. English 199 seems like a course that will give you a good foundation.

Prepared to get owned.
101 and 102 aren't too bad, I heard 105 is the best.

Ugh, I took 2 W courses in my first semester.
English 103 was pretty easy, provided you read the plays beforehand.

This course, as someone else mentioned, did not help me write better. I struggled through it and overall, the course was dry with many critical analysis of papers. I did get a decent mark but I still hated the course. I'm not sure how the material is different in distance ed but I assume it's easier with less assignments? Good luck.

When I took it a few semesters ago, it was "anti-God" so I had a field day with the papers. Crappy part, 6 novels and you're bound to hate most if not all of them. I did like one of them though.

104 is pretty good depending on the prof
the readings they pick are like reading editorials in newspaper in the form of narratives
