anything that deviates far from 4300k will lose light output substantially.

look at the other HID thread, since you'll probably be putting your "HIDs" in reflector housings as well unfortunately.

lots of great information in here and why NOT to put HID's in reflector housings.

For the love of god. Please do not put HID into your refector type head light.
Blinds everyone oncoming.

Whether they suck or not, they are illegal in BC. Period.

Just FYI.

Incorrect. Non-OEM HIDs are illegal for street use in BC.

No, it's not... however, it is only legal when provided by the vehicle manufacturer, and used in the specific car for which it was designed.

In other words, if your car came from the factory with HIDs, it's legal.

If you swap in the *complete* factory-installed HID system, including leveling mechanism, from the identical vehicle into yours, it's legal.

Anything else... no dice.

Blue lighting is also illegal on anything but a police car.

Regular vehicles are allowed white, red, and yellow lighting.

uh oh not this again....

8000k....seriously? Might as well use the christmas tree lights. I am one of those who would rather stick with crappy halogens than stick a PnP kit in my car, because to me a PnP kit is a half-assed way to 'better' lighting...so many factors go into a lighting system: lumen, avoiding glare, headlight throw, cutting through fog and rain...all factors where the PnP kit just could not measure up to an HID retrofit. Cost too much? NO. if you are a DIY type of person you can find parts that will add up to about what you would pay for an HID kit. Don't know how to do it? There are people who can do them for you for a LOT of money. Don't have the money? that's fine, we are all poor, but if you do it right (stick within specified K temp, aim down, etc), I can respect that even if I disagree. What I'm most concerned is the idea that people buy PnP kit for their color temperature (aka blue) and aesthetic value (which is not much), that totally defeats the purpose of better lighting performance. And NO, I don't want to look away if I see blue lights coming my way...it's annoying. If I'm annoyed, then you must suffer with me.

In short: looks or output...what's it going to be?

Yes, that will work much better... because shaded bulbs work by blocking part of the light spectrum, they'll actually be much brighter! Er... wait...

How do you think they turn white light into blue? By blocking part of the red and yellow. That means - ta da! - reduced output! You just made your lights dimmer!

Good plan, sparky.

Soundy..."there are none so deaf as those who do not want to hear". He can't handle the truth. He just wants us to validate his illegal and unsafe choice...all in the name of fashion & bling. Maybe he could paint his tyres blue to match the car instead?

Sounds about right.

That's okay, he'll be back, posting the Police Forum, wondering how he can dispute his ticket for driving with only his fog lights, and the VI he gets for his illegal HIDs, or maybe wondering how he can fight the lawsuit from the guy that crashed because he was blinded by the things. $5 Tim card says it's within three months

teggy, ou say you ask because you don't know, but when you get answers you don't like, you complain about the people giving them? Tell us, if you came in here and said you wanted to drive a nail through your skull, and everyone told you, "No, don't do it, it will hurt!", would you get pissed off at them for ruining your fun?

Go ahead and do whatever you want. Just promise us one thing: when you disregard all the warnings from everyone who knows better, and then get smacked down by your choices, will you please come back and let us know? We LOVE saying "I told you so!"

QFT.

Some reflector housings are designed better than others.. so glare will vary. Genereally speaking, older cars such as ef civics, 240sx's, etc have terrible glare in my experience. Install at your own risk.

So which is it? You even contradict yourself in your own postings. I still think a spray can of blue paint applied to your tyres would make your car look more blue...and not blind other drivers. I also seem to remember seeing a coloured tyre dressing at Crappy Tyre a while back. Just a thought. hahaha joke right back at you.

If the complete HID headlight system was offered by the car's manufacturer for that particular car, then you can put that COMPLETE SYSTEM into your vehicle. Individual pieces of a system may be safe and legal, but unless they were tested and designed to work together in that vehicle, then it' a no-go. Anything other than that, eg using bits & pieces from another system, does not give you a controllable, properly focused lighting source and has not been tested or approved by the car's manufacturer. It is also illegal according to BC and Federl law in Canada and in the US. If I found you operating with a "converted" system, you got parked on the spot and the vehicle was removed from the road until such time as you had a safe & legal system in it.
