backup hard drive - encryption

I'm going to be setting up an external drive to backup my hard drives as well as norton images of pc's. What I want is for it to do scheduled backups of selected drives and folders but to make everything put on that drive to be encrypted. Basically, my idea is that in the event of a fire or i have to get out of the house quick, I would grab the external drive and run. however, i don't want someone breaking into my house and taking it and then having access to all the contents of the external drive. anyone have a setup that does this? i looked into MS backup but there isn't any encryption.
