need a better router?

alright so when i run speedtest on my laptop(wireless connection), my d/l rate is roughly 1400kbps. whereas when i'm on my computer(cable connection to router), i get roughly 8000kbps. i also tried this on another computer which is on wireless and i also get speeds of about 1400kbps. my router is di-524, and my network card on my laptop is Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN. anyone know if there's anything i can do to get a better speed on wireless? or would i need a new router?

thanks

Wireless will always be slower than wired. To get faster speeds, you might need both a wireless N router and wireless N wifi cards.

the normal wireless routers are 54mbps.... which is a hell of a lot faster then your internet...

wireless routers will slow down lan file transfers (54mb vs 100mb or 1000mb for lan) but shouldn't effect internet.

try pluging the laptop into the router and see what you get.

try updating firmware

but all in all, a wireless n will yield more speeds, and MUCH less delay of webpage loading

i just went from the di624 to the linksys WRT160N.

night and day difference with wireless internet delays, speeds, connection reliability

so i got a new router dir655. using N connection and everything seems to be okay. getting roughly 10000kbps on speedtest on wireless. i'm able to get 1MB/s d/l speeds on torrents, but for direct downloading from sites like $$$$$$$$$$ or rapidshare, my speeds barely hit 100kB/s. anyone know why?

^ im pretty disapointed with my DIR655..

like you im getting similar rates on download sites like that, dont really know why

and the range of the DIR655 sucks balls.. my WRT300N got way better distance and even whatever router my neighbor has, which probably isnt as "good" as the DIR655 gets way better disatnce cause i still pick up his signal anywhere in my house while my DIR655 is weak in alot of spots

OT question...I am using DL624 router...and PPPoE DSL dial up (that requires log-in and give you a random ip).

How will it affect portforward if I don't have a static ip?
I tried it with utorrent, I see a green tick at the bottom (which means the port is open successfully), but torrent speed is 1/3 slower...why?

you router is too slow.

get a DIR-825, the 350mhz processor in the router handles BT traffic much better.

I could get great signal anywhere in my house in hk which is like 3000sq ft all concrete walls.

the signal for the house in china is a tad weaker since its quite a bit bigger, i needed signal booster in each floor.

i dunno about u, but my 655 in hk can easily handle the traffic coming from the 100Mb PCCW fiber, this is with downloading BT close to 6-7MB/s with about 4 wireless device connected and about 6 wired device connected. transfering large files in between and streaming videos between the network and none of them shows slowdown when browsing. I believe there was 2 HD Now TV also running when i did the full network stress test.
