Thanks for all the info guys. My dad just recently bought a blackberry storm, from an RS user that met up with him. And I just picked up my curve 8330 for free +$100cash :). I just had to take over a guys contract. The phones mint! I think it's a pretty freaking awesome deal. Thanks for all the help!

k so I'm looking to switch my E71 for a Bold.

I was just wondering if there are any differences with the firmware that a Rogers locked BB would run as oppose to an unlocked BB? if so, are they major? and how would you update it if I was to unlock a Rogers one?

I plan on using it overseas which is why I would definitely unlock the BB if it was locked to Rogers

TIA

As far as I know there shouldnt be any differences other than rogers branding
at startup/shutdown?

i was thinking of a bold from my e71 as well
then i saw the 8900 but it lacks 3G
so i'm waiting for the 'magnum' i guess

xaznpwnx 01-16-2009 10:14 PM

i just got the 8900 today and im loving it so far, but the keys are kinda too small for me, as for plans im paying $60/month for 250 mins, unlimited rogers to rogers to fido calling, 500 mb data, 2500 txt msgs, and unlimited calling after 6

djalf 01-16-2009 11:36 PM

thanks for the response Draft. I hope that's the only difference.

if anyone wants to buy an E71 or trade it for a Bold PM me lol.

Thats pretty much mine but I'm on bell with $45 per month. No unlimited fido to rogers callin unfortunately. But hey, the a blackberry is a blackberry!

Bold user.

I got the old school ring on. Not a huge fan of the different ring tones anymore. I was constantly playing Word Mole while in the car in HK.

I just got the Google Map application after seeing my friend use it. BEST THING ever next to Twitterberry.

djalf 01-18-2009 10:38 PM

got my bold now :) gonna take a while to get used to but gotta start some day.

btw, what are the best sites to get free apps and possibly even themes? is there even such a thing? I know most people don't care because it's a business-oriented phone but hey, the Symbian forums have a lot of free stuff, even for the E series.

I've had my curve 8900 for about a month.... Luv it

djalf 01-20-2009 12:45 PM

need some help

since I got my bold used, the email accounts from the previous owner are linked to the BB PIN. how can I delete them and add my own? I've been told the previous owner needs to log in to the Rogers BB site and delete his accounts so I can add mine.

any other suggestions? I'm with Rogers btw. TIA

mazdaboi 01-20-2009 08:12 PM

^ you should check out crackberry.com. Good place to find answers.

djalf 01-20-2009 08:19 PM

thanks man. I called Rogers and told them to release the PIN for me. At first I got a douche who said the original owner needed to call and approve. I then waited a couple of hours and called again, explained my situation to another Rogers rep and no questions asked. He released the PIN in a matter of minutes :)

back in the game now lol

Grandmaster TSE 01-21-2009 02:37 PM

dub.g 01-24-2009 11:23 AM

i figured it will suit on this thread

anyone know why im only getting 6 or maybe 8 hours of battery life on my blackberry curve 8300

i picked up a used one, and bought a new battery (an actual blackberry brand) and i notice a considereable short amount of life span on the curve

even when i turn it on standby...

i read on the blackberry and crackberry forums and ppl had similar issue.. maybe because there is an app running in the background? im trying to figure it out..

apparently even the 8310 and the bold is having the same issues?

rc-luder 01-25-2009 09:42 AM

^

Same things happens to my bold. I fully charge it and within the next hour my battery is almost drained. I usually reboot and/or pull the battery out. If that doesnt work i usually pop in the newest firmware.

ienhz 01-25-2009 10:43 AM

you try turning down the brightness? i have a curve 8900 and set mine at 60-70. it's perfectly readable and saves quite a bit of power.

dub.g 01-25-2009 11:11 AM

i did the pop the battery and turn down the brightness even at -50
and i just recently upgraded to the new firmware.. and still get the same battery life of about 6 or 7 hours. if im constantly txting and average a total of 20 mins on call during the day, it cuts down to 5hrs..

i dont use blackberry messanger or anything so i deleted some of the apps.. and still the same battery life average..

if i can squeeze 2 days worth of life on this battery, id b happy..

cspec 01-25-2009 11:56 AM

Turn off GPS Location if you don't need it.
Turn off Wi-Fi.
Turn off Bluetooth.
Turn off apps that you don't need
