People should just resort to a barter system instead of a currency which holds no monetary value.

i highly doubt that ferrari will even allow their cars to be sold there, the risk of crime is probably high enough to deter them from making a business venture in that country. I think the only way a ferrari can be had in that country is if the person buys it in italy and ships it back to zimbabwe, which would be bizzare because why would he still want to live there when the value of his money is decreasing at an exponential rate unless he was a corrupt government official or general.

Nope. They only carry more common currencies.

If you have a currency that is expected to lose 50% of its value EVERY DAY, would you still hold it?

I mean, I would much rather resort to the barter system of trade, or better yet, just trade in a different currency like USD. (I thought it is common for african/middle east countries to trade in USD?)

Well, it's not like they don't do any of that... they try to get rid of as much Z$ as they can by converting it to USD or gold or whatever... but I think the problem is the government is injecting so much money into the economy that inevitably the cash still has to float around for awhile...

there's just SO MUCH corruption there, there's no way they can get themselves out of the hole unless Mugabe is dead.

Coin collectors will have zim bills. I bought one from a local shop also bought some Iraq currency with Sadam on it.

AJL 01-19-2009 06:48 PM

instead of creating larger bills why not drop 6 zeros

jdmhaze 01-19-2009 07:24 PM

I guess they carry duffle bags instead of wallets.

They already did that a few months ago when they dropped ten zeroes from the old dollar to the new dollar.

If they didn't do that, instead of the 100 trillion dollar bill that would be coming out, it would be the 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (1 septillion) bill.

Of course, they could once again drop a whole bunch of zeroes and make yet another new dollar, but they'll have to do it all over again a few months from now...
