Yeah, not worth it, labour for comps is like $50/hr and just to take the notebook apart and put back together is 2hrs ontop of putting the screen back... Never a guarantee to work aswell... Buy a dell they are cheap great nextday 9am parts delivery to your home warranty... I sell more dells than any other brand out there.

^I tried to buy a Dell for my kid for University... I liked the idea of their on-site warranty. Dell fucked up, lost my order, sent me confirmation emails for someone else's order, and by the time it was all sorted out, it was too late to order one to get it in time for him to leave, so we ended up going to Best Buy and getting him a Sony. Way to drop the ball, Dell! idiots...

most of the times when the lcd goes out on a notebook its the backlight inverter that has fried. It's not hard to take apart and replace.

eBay is probably the easiest place to source parts. Either find the part there, or salvage parts from another identical model that's dead for some other reason (you might be able to find one on CL or eBay that fits that description)

Dismantling shouldn't be too tough. Most notebooks are fairly simple - so just mark where you disconnected something from and you'll be fine.

I guess its harder for them to lose my packages since i am dell certified, and i have my own dell rep. But their warranty hasnt failed me yet... I still rather build my own whitebox over a dell but, when it comes down to notebooks i either go with acer or dell.
