Introducing the 'Barackberry'! A $3,350 new 'spy-proof' handheld

The government told him he'd have to give it up.

He didn't take it well.

"I'm still clinging to my Blackberry. They're going to have to pry it out of my hands," Obama said in an interview earlier this month with the New York Times and CNBC.

Looks like being President has its perks, as Obama gets to keep his beloved Blackberry after all, according to reports.

Well, sort of.

CNN reports that President Barack Obama will receive a spy-proof smartphone, which is very similar to his beloved Blackberry. It will be outfitted with an encrypted software package to help keep it from getting hacked, according to The Atlantic.

The magazine is reporting that a government agency, likely the National Security Agency, added the super-encryption package to the smartphone so that Obama can send routine and personal messages via the Berry. CNN reports that this $3,350 smartphone was approved by the National Security Agency.

And yes, it's already being called, you guessed it, the "BarackBerry."

One of the concerns over Obama having a Blackberry is that because of the GPS within the device, hackers could pinpoint the president's location, according to CNN.

The White House has traditionally been a bit tech-phobic. President George W. Bush had to give up email when he took office, and President Clinton only sent two emails during his reign - one being a test of the email system, the other a message to astronaut John Glenn before he took off into space in 1998, according to CNN.

Not to worry folks, Bam won't be using the Berry for sending material that's sensitive, as government Blackberries are usually not designed to protect any messages above the "SECRET" status, according to The Atlantic.

But if Bam needs to let Michelle know he's running late or beg Sasha to feed the dog, well, he can turn to his trusted BarackBerry!

So it's still a Blackberry, but with some extra security software loaded on it... doesn't make it a whole new device.

Interesting... but it says Obama can still keep his Blackberry for personal use... gonna be pretty inconvenient to carry both devices...

Reading comprehension ftl... They're refering to the new device he will be using as the "Blackberry he will keep, sort of".
