Boat burns down in marina (Richmond)

Took some pics. Did anyone else see this? Now part of West Richmond stinks like rubber.

Anyone know how it started?

d3vI4nt 01-27-2009 06:28 PM

Some guy said it was started by a propane tank when I was there but I don't know for sure.

No that's the Morey Channel Bridge that connects to Sea Island Way. This fire was at the marina at the Delta Hotel off Russ Baker.

The_AK 01-27-2009 07:20 PM

good quality photo,
what camera?

d3vI4nt 01-27-2009 07:31 PM

D70s. I took the shot at around 4-5pm.
This was my favorite shot of the boat. Still sucks for the owner of the boat. I believe the news said a gentleman and his dog were on the boat at the time but I don't think anyone died.

RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - One person has been slightly injured in a boat fire in the middle arm of the Fraser, near the Delta hotel.

Richmond's Acting Fire Chief Ron Beamon says the boat has been destroyed.

"It was fully involved and it was a 40 foot boat that the super structure was burning. The super structure is the area above the deck line."

He says one person was taken to hospital with superficial burns. There's no early word on a cause or whether the fire is considered suspicious.

Peanut Butter Jelly Time! 01-27-2009 08:15 PM

i'd hate to be the adjuster/insurance company involved in this claim..

SolidPenguin 01-27-2009 08:54 PM

Yah i saw this on the way back from school (langara) to richmond.

On crossing over the Arther Laing my friend said something about those weird clouds. As we got closer i thought "those clouds are dark, bet somethings on fire"

Then we got distracted cause there was an accident on the bridge, some Lordco delivery car driver rearended a corolla.

As we were getting to the end of the bridge we saw the fire and the billowing smoke from the marina.
