Ha!
I (together with my family) own 3 Timmies with a 4 scheduled to open April 1
I have been reading through this thread laughing. Someone said something about the cup costing more than the coffee, your close, try the whole pot.
The truth is that Starbucks and Timmies are 2 different types of coffee (drinkers) The best way I can describe it is Timmies is east coast and Starbucks is West coast.
When I moved here in 95 from TO they said that we would never keep up in this Starbucks driven market, now look. They said Krispy Cream was going to put us all out of bussiness, I have yet to even see one (I know about the one in Whiterock)
Now on to those Latte's, theres only so much I can say but I understand why everyone feels they way they do about them, and I agree with you, they need some work. This was Tim Hortons atempt at picking up some of the slack made by all the Starbucks closings but like I said there 2 different things. I 'll be honest it has yet to catch on and I am wondering if it ever will.
The bright side is that come summer they plan on introducing Iced Coffee (not to worry the Ice Capps will still be here to) its part of the new machine that makes the Latte's
BTW-That machine cost me $18,000 per store, thats why Timmies is going strong and Starbucks is going down, the corperation end of it still makes a killing and keeps opening new stores.

some of you guys are a bit over-reacting, whether you like it or not, starbucks will still be around after the economic crisis and prob for a long time. cutting jobs and closing unprofitable stores is all done to reduce costs so they can better use that resource on maybe other area of business ie. marketing

It's not expensive if you just get the regular blends. It's when you get all fancy with your mocha, machiato's and what not the price adds up.

most places are $1. most ppl get grande or venti so thats $3 just for a normal coffee, nothing fancy.

So technically NO, coffee isnt that much more expensive. Maybe by like a quarterish to 40 cents.
Where'd you even get those numbers from?
Quality and taste of coffee at Starbucks and Timmy's are completely different, so really you can't compare them to each other.

the 5 dollar drinks most of you are comparing to instant coffee isn't a fair comparison. A 5 dollar drink would be a venti something something with a little something more latte/mocha or frappucino. the fancy stuff most people get add up to about 4 dollars.
the 8, 12, 16 and 20 oz brewed coffee goes at 1.52, 1.73, 1.98, and 2.21.
if you have a registered card you can get free refills in one sitting. of course if you add a shit load of cream/milk, just get one size smaller and ask for the size up cup instead of dumping coffee out. there's a lot of ways to cheat the system.
then again i used to work for starbucks and didn't really like it after a year. most of the people/customers are nice but there's the few that are complete snobby assholes that are portrayed in media that ruin it. then again there's those types of people in all food/customer related businesses.

When I drink starbucks, it's more like $1.73 for two cups of coffee. Get a tall coffee in a grande cup, so you have plenty of room for cream, then pay using your starbucks card and have another refill on the house. Go the extra mile by buying the short coffee in a tall cup!

so get your refills + oatmeal for $1.73
Why let SB rip you off when you can rip SB off !

Whether or not it's expensive is one thing, but we all know that getting plain coffee from SB, Timmy, or wutever that's out there is an unnecessary expense as most offices have their own coffee maker.

i guess people will always hate corporations no matter what.
but remember, starbucks started out as a small company and grew. just because they made it big, had a lot of success, realized people would spend lots of money on drinks, and made some money while doing it doesnt mean they are a bad company.

The quality of Starbucks is not the issue.
The issue is how willing people are to continue to buy their mocha/latte every day.
I know people that HAVE to have their starbucks latte every day but are starting to realize "Hey if I don't spend $5 bucks a day, I could save enough money to buy a big screen TV in a year!"
Even with just buying the brew coffee at Starbucks for $1.50...
That's $1.50 for ONE cup of coffee.
For 10 bucks you can buy a bag of GOOD coffee beans and brew 50 cups of coffee.
