i agree. who cares if they're on their cell phone? i mean you just said that you don't even want to smile at customers? so why should we acknowledge you? that's not a big deal
BTW, the OP is a GIRL. i'm almost positive about this.
AND cashiers get $17 a hour approx. I know this because my friend used to work there.

i used to be a cashier at shoppers drug mart - people talking on their cell phones is soo rude - finish the conversation or AT LEAST just tell the person on the other side to hang on a minute, put the phone down and finish your purchase. if the person would stay on the cell phone i'd just be like "SO HOW'S YOUR DAY GOING TODAY?!" "NICE WEATHER HEY?" they would get the idea
