No More Celebration of Lights!

Just heard on News1130 that there will NOT be the Celebration of Lights fireworks competition this year because of lack of sponsorship money. I'm sure news articles will come soon...

Wow $4m in sponsor funds = $37m in direct visitor spending... city should be supporting this shit by putting out the leftover funds.

MG1 02-04-2009 10:52 AM

It costs a lot of money to put it on. Clean up being a huge cost. Now if people were more careful....... nah, not gonna happen.

Drift_Monkey 02-04-2009 11:26 AM

i rather they spend that money on tax returns. why burn money in the air when you can give it to your people.

lilaznviper 02-04-2009 11:47 AM

NOoooooo

dachinesedude 02-04-2009 11:57 AM

They said that last year, but the fireworks still happened. It's too early to know for sure

RFlush 02-04-2009 12:16 PM

I am sure if they let Benson and Hedges or any other tobacco company sponsor, it will still be on year after year.

Rich Sandor 02-04-2009 12:21 PM

times are tough

chun 02-04-2009 12:28 PM

I'm all for tighter regulation but not permitting Benson and Hedges to sponsor is a little dumb.

If here was some way for them to charge people to go, I'd be all for it. Might keep some of the low lives out.

It's hard to charge people for an event that happens in the sky
Most people would just watch from farther rather then pay the charge

I think last year they were saying it may not happen, but this time it sounds pretty concrete that it will NOT be happening.

Harvey Specter 02-04-2009 02:28 PM

Yup, last year it was the same thing but they were able to secure funds but I don't think they will this year.

q0192837465 02-04-2009 02:36 PM
