| Problem starting after filling gas...
Hey everyone,
Having a small issue that i would like to get some feedback on. The last 2 times i've gone to fill up (always chevron 94 octane) ive had real trouble starting the car back up. It only happens after I fill up gas. I've checked the gas cap and replaced it, still happenes. The car turns over (electrical works), but it just wont start. I have to pump the gas pedal for a bit and then the idle is a bit off and within a minute or so its all back to normal.
is this my main fuel relay? has anyone had problems like this before?
btw, car is Turbo'd 2000 prelude
Thanks for all your help!

How low do you let the tank get before filling it back up?

Sounds to me like the injectors are giving way too much fuel on startup when the car is warm. Is this car tuned with hondata or anything?

take off gas line that enters the gas rail, get a rag ready, get someone to turn over the engine a few times. see if ur getting gas. if u dont already, install or test the pressure. this will test to see if ur pump is still working right and or need to change ur filter if u havent already.
that will at least eliminate from the tank to the engine.

dont ever go lower than 1/2 tank
tuned with hondata, but its been that way for around 4 months now so i dont think its a tune issue
thanks sg, i'll give that a try then, but if it was a pump issue wouldnt it occur everytime i start the car? not just when i fill gas??

it's definitely not your main relay, the car won't crank at all if it's your main relay.

I had the same problem with my boosted EK tuned by wayne at G5. I'd fill up, go to start my car and it wouldnt turn over. If it did, I'd have to peddle the shit out of the gas to keep it going. Car was running SOOOO bloody rich. Happened EVERY time i filled up.
Edit: I was running Hondata s100 w/boost.

running 340cc injectors
hmmmm cdizzle - im running the same setup tune wise, what did you end up doing? is it fixed?
this just started out of no where, the car has been tuned for a few months now.
if it was the fuel filter wouldnt this happen everytime i start the car? i dont mind changing all these things, but i dont want to start putting money in the wrong places
i guess i may just have to start the elimination process...

I changed the fuel pump, and filter, and it didn't fix it. I ended up selling, so to be honest to you I have no idea. I think it has somthing to do with possibly the weather, and the tune. It was happening to me in december and january of last year, and it started out of no where.
This is a thread I made at the time around a year ago.. http://www.vancouvercivics.com/forum....php?tid=70438 |

it's all about the love bro, you feelin' it?
check with hondata if there is some switch that it should shut off when you turn off ignition. Sounds to me that the last few seconds after the ignition is shut the injectors are leaking into the cylinders.
Or that the wiring on the hondata is off and the hondata tells the injector to go off first before the ignition goes off.
the thing about hondas is that if you turn the key from off to ON there is a few seconds when the pump will prime itself, I'm thinking your injector is leaking out during that time.
when you do crank it get some friend to stand behind the car and see if there's a lot of black smoke, if there is you are cranking over a really rich mixture....Like during the cranking it shouldn't smell like gas from behind.
simulate a hot start situation, and , of course, do it away from a gas station.

water in the gas?
it happened once to my friend, the water in the gas was exceeding the regulation level, the car just died right after the fill...had to be towed to the dealer and the dealer told him to talk to the gas station manager. The gas in that particular gas station had too much water.

Not in my particular case. I was filling up at all different Chevrons, with 94 and it always happened.

main relay
end thread
the way to check it without lighting yourself on fire is pretty simple....
Listen
the main relay clicks, the fuel pump wines. turn the key to the on position, and you should get an audible whine sound from the pump priming, you might need to get someone else to listen near the tank depending on insulation on ludes.
if the pump isnt priming then its not getting signal, if its not getting signal but the rest of the car is (the starter turns over) then its 99% your relay
83.43 from honda, and any dealer worth your buisness should have it in stock as its a very common part number.
