| can you lend someone your credit card?
hey, this is probably a stupid question, but my fiancee wants to buy a very pricey item, and she has a basic credit card, but i want her to use the credit card under my name cause i get airmiles. I wont be there when she will be making the purchase, but if i leave her my card, will they let her use it at the point of sale? since i know a lot of places need picture ID as well...

Technically no. Visa won't cover the company if you decide to chargeback. So if you want the points, best bet is to be there. Unless the store has some trust in you.

I do it all the time most times it's not an issue because they 95% of the time they don't ask for ID.
Edit: Then again you're talking about a girl using a guys card so unless your name is Sue or something like that it probably will be an issue.

I've used my mom's zellers credit card before. All she did was give me a note to give to the cashier saying that she authorizes me to use her card, entered my name within the note and signed her signature. You could try that.
Try calling the store that your girlfriend wants to make the purchase from and ask them their policy on it.

the only time it would work is if the merchant is incompetent and doesn't properly verify your fiancee is the card holder. But like you said, it's a large purchase, and merchants are usually a little more careful when making large transactions.
Only the individual on the Visa can authorize purchases on the card.
PS: If you want to do things properly, you can call your Visa carrier and request for a secondary card (aka. joint) be issued under your fiancee's name. And depending on your Visa carrier, the points accumulated between you two can be pooled under the same account.

I thought when you use a credit card, all you have to do is sign.
Any monkey can copy a sloppy signature, considering most cashier's don't even bother checking and return the credit card before they ask you to sign. Some places like gas station's don't require a signature if you pay at the pump.

you can still do it.
you go to the store, they verify, and you let the store know your gf wants to buy gifts and to put it on your cards account.
it works.

I'm guessing none of you guys have ever worked retail for a reputable company that makes you go through Loss Prevention training? lol
The Merchant is responsible for verifying the buyer as the card holder.
But we all know not everybody does things "by the book".
The reason for this is if the purchase was ever disputed, Visa will be calling....And if Visa finds out that the merchant messed up, guess who's paying for the purchase?

You violate your terms with your bank if you give your PIN to anybody. It was in the agreement that you signed when opening an account.
I work for a bank and if the bank ever finds out you gave your PIN to somebody, or wrote it down somewhere (like in your wallet), they have the right to deny any fraudulent claims and/or service(s).
For example, this one guy was identified as a skimming victim, but when filling out the declaration, he admitted that he keeps his PIN written down in his wallet because he always forgets, and guess what? We denied his claim based on a breach of contract. Yes, he was stupid for admitting that, but he probably saw no harm in being completely honest. Luckily it was only a couple hundred dollar claim, but imagine if he got skimmed for a few thousand....
