Another shooting in vanvouver Kitsilano shooting victim linked to United Nations gang Kim Bolan, Vancouver Sun Published: Monday, February 09, 2009 VANCOUVER - He was shot at least six times outside a Kitsilano grocery store late Sunday, but a 28-year-old man is still not cooperating with Vancouver police. Const. Jana McGuinness said the man remains in stable condition in hospital after the shooting at 11 p.m. Sunday at the IGA Marketplace in the 2000-block of W. 10th Avenue. He was conscious and moving when our members arrived," McGuinness said. "He is in stable condition and is uncooperative with the investigators at this time." Police are refusing to release more information about the man, but The Vancouver Sun has learned he is linked to the United Nations gang and has faced gun charges before. He used to live in Abbotsford. McGuiness said right after the shooting, a police dog searched the area, but "the suspect was not found." "He was seen running away on foot. Today our search and canvas teams are back there. They are combing the area, making sure there is no discarded evidence. Collecting anything they find." She said investigators are appealing for witnesses to call and were grateful so many people called 911 Sunday night when they heard gunshots. "That is very helpful to the investigation, that people are paying attention and they are making those calls to the police." The incident is just the latest in a rash of shootings that have left four dead and two wounded in a week across Metro Vancouver. McGuiness would not say if the victim is known to police or linked to any of the other recent shootings in Coquitlam, Langley, Surrey or Abbotsford. "We believe this is a targeted shooting. It has the earmarks of a gang shooting. But we are not making the definitive links right now," she siad. "It is a concern. It seems like a lot of things are happening in very quick succession around the Lower Mainland and even one shooting is one too many. We are making concerted efforts to suppress gang violence." She said the B.C. Integrated Gang Task Force is compiling in-depth intelligence on all the gang activity in the region. "We share information with them very closely and all the agencies benefit from that intelligence that's gathered and that hub of intelligence that's shared," she said. "Our efforts will continue to suppress this very public brazen displays of violence." kbolan@vancouversun.com Read Kim Bolan's blog, The Real Scoop © The Vancouver Sun 2009 |
The people who shot him six times? FAIL. |
Tupac has nothing on this guy lol |
this shooting is to close to home its weird because shootings almost never happen in the kits area |
They've been a few shootings in Kits over the years and it's not like Kits is gangster proof, the area has gangsters living all over. And the most recent shooting I can remember in the Kits area was that guy in the M5 who got popped. He also lived around that area. |
scary stuff none the less |
Yup, very scary. It's just a matter of time before an innocent bystander gets caught in the middle. |

Only 6, commmmon 50 got shot 9 times! ___ The gang problem is out of control in this city, they just said on the news that Vancouver has one of the worst gang problems currently in the WORLD, over 100 different gangs. |
I think rs should rally to get a petition to get the laws and the courts to wake up and help the people that need it... |
only drug dealers could afford to shop at iga anyways. |
shit no wonder why my tips have been going down, thugs have been killing eachother. |
shits, i deliver around there == |

Are these guys lousy shots or do we have really good doctors? Berz out. |
I'm actually quite surprised how no innocent bystander hasn't been caught in the crossfire. There's been like...what...5 shootings in the last week? Definately not holding my breath, it's only a matter of time...unfortunately. |

Is he expected to survive? |
It says he was stable at the scene so I'm guessing he's alright and already called his friends and told them who shot him. Stay tuned this week for more action!!! It's always a bad sign when you hear "Victim is not co-operating with police" Berz out. |
