Which Netbook to get?

Hi guys, my sister is looking to get a netbook. I was just wondering which netbook and where to get it... I'm confused by all the choices.

The shortlist right now is:

Acer Aspire One w/ 160GB HDD
ASUS EEE 1000H w/160GB HDD
MSI Wind U100 w/160GB HDD
Lenovo S10 w/ 160GB HDD
LG X110 w/ 160GB HDD

The X110 would probably be my preference, but it's also the priciest out of all of them. The AA1 would probably be the cheapest. Probably going to get them at NCIX, unless somewhere else is cheaper.

Which to pick?

X110 is basically an MSI Wind platform. Catch is. Maximum 1GB ram though. I wouldn't get that one. I suggest either the Wind U100 or the new 1000HE that should be out soon. 1000HE has the new macbook style keyboard, new bottom cover, and super long life battery.

HP Mini LOL

Sorry, I'm a fanboy.

I'd go for the LG, or the new AA1. Remember, some of them have 8.9" screens and some have 10.1" (from your list), some have normal keyboards and some have screwed up tiny ones with weird key placements.

HP Mini 1000 is nice but the 6 cel battery is oogly. New AA1 is still as chunky as the old one. Mini 2140 HD screen nice but expensive...

The Mini 2140 HD isn't out yet, and the 2140 is thick and ugly. The 1000 (I have the 1035NR, top-of-the-line model) is light, thin, with a gorgeous screen and massive keyboard. It's pricier than the rest with a tiny 60GB drive, but I thought it was worth every penny.

HP Mini too expensive.

I know the screen sizes and keyboards differ... I guess I will try to try them in person to see which suits me/my sister better.

I'd go for the Eee or, if you can wait, the Eee PC 1000HE as Mikroft mentioned. The keyboard is better (in terms of layout too), the battery life is great, and you get the awesome build quality of Asus.

HP, Acer & MSI alway get good reviews....
Asus....They always manage to be the most expensive.

And if you're willing to pay the Sony tax, i think the Sony P series is pretty nice.

There are ways to get 720p to run kinda smoothly on most netbooks. Works great for me:
http://portablemonkey.com/site/artic...etbook-how-to/

Yeah, no 1080p on the Mini, but Gundam 00 is a lot smoother now bwahahahahah

The Sony P is in a class on its own. It starts at around $999, if I remember correctly. That can almost get you something more versatile like a Flybook.

Or a refurbished Macbook.

Waiting for tonight's NCIX sale... see what's up there.

I don't think my sister even knows what 720p means. I have my Macbook Pro 17" for general laptop use, this is for her mostly.

Dual core atoms are ready, but will be delayed until Q4 2009.
Intel is trying to milk as much as they can out of the Single-core Atom. (I wouldn't blame them, since they are flying off the shelves)

I picked up my AAO at NCIX last year. I'm happy with it, it's been great. I work on Photoshop, Word, Excel and AutoCAD on it. The only thing is when AutoCAD boots up, it says it needs to be 1024x768 res or higher. No issue though, it still works.

If battery life/upgradability isn't too important HP Mini 1035 btw. It's cheaper at Costco than NCIX. Like $499 or something. And u can return if you don't like it haha

Hmm, NCIX sale has some interesting stuff.

EEE 1000HA for 429 + tax, or MSI Wind U120 for 449 + tax?

I kind-of like the way the Wind looks better, but the EEE has a better touchpad I think.

EDIT: My sister wants the Sakura Red 1000HA, lol. That's an extra $50 on top for some paint and cherry blossom decals. -_-;;
