Nocardia 02-15-2009 04:53 PM

I actually think its a good idea. Its been going on for a few years now and I have done it every year. Raises awareness that it does happen.

I have no idea what is going on in metrotown tho.....

SoulCrusher 02-15-2009 04:57 PM

ZhangFei you're a moron. There is a story behind the pink shirt/bullying thing.

Pink shirts inspire anti-bullying day

The pink wave has hit Nova Scotia's Province House, inspiring the government to earmark one day every year for students to send an anti-bullying message.

The second Thursday of the school year is now known as Stand Up Against Bullying Day.

To mark the day, Premier Rodney MacDonald is asking students at every level to wear pink.

MacDonald said he was impressed by the actions of two Annapolis Valley students who rallied around a younger student after he was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt.

"I've seen circumstances as a teacher where students can make a difference, and this is one of those times when students have made a difference," said MacDonald, a former gym teacher.

The two students, David Shepherd and Travis Price, were in Halifax Tuesday for the signing of the proclamation.

The Grade 12 students at Central Kings Rural High School have become celebrities, inspiring students around Nova Scotia to wear pink to show that bullying will not be tolerated.

Shepherd and Price came up with the idea after hearing that a Grade 9 student was harassed, threatened and called a homosexual for wearing pink on the first day of school.

They bought 50 pink shirts from a discount store, then e-mailed classmates to get them on board. The next day, hundreds of students showed up wearing pink clothing.

dress like you're gay and expect people to not treat you like you're gay... not gonna happen.

picking on someone cuz of a pink shirt is weak tho.

ZhangFei 02-15-2009 05:18 PM

I don't see how this would be an effective campaign against bullying.

i think he knows that. hence the reason for the phrase "it's a dog eat dog world"
it's a fools fate. brought on by fear and insecurity

It raises awareness, which is good. Will it work? So far, in schools, it has. People are talking about it. Perhaps it's just a passing fad. I used to be a bully myself in high school. I'm really ashamed of the shit I used to do. I can't take back what I've done, but the awareness level of the hurt bullying causes was non existent back then. Nobody gave a shit.

When I moved to Langley, I went to the local dental clinic because of a chipped tooth (result of a bar fight - J/K). I saw the name of the head dentist at the clinic. He was one of the kids I bullied in high school. Nope, I thought to myself. No way am I giving him an opportunity to get back at me. I could walk out of there with no teeth left or worse - like being knocked out and ass raped. LOL. It was 30 plus years ago, but I'm pretty sure he would remember me.

most of the time, it's because people are afraid
actually, blue has been considered the more affeminate color for centuries
