RIP to the victims

Alleged shooter identified, not too sure if it’s confirmed yet, I believe the pics include two different people

You just knew as soon as the RCMP got quiet about the shooter and media not saying much about it being a female which is exceedingly rare that it was going to be a transgender kid... let the social media culture war begin. That's all the morons needed, 1 example to work with after decades of deranged white dudes getting a "mental health" pass.

Does it matter who did the shooting? 9 people are dead from senseless violence.

-hoping that this 12 year old girl survives the shooting at Tumbler Ridge.

Poor kid.

https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2026/0...ly-speaks-out/

Krysta Hunt says her cousin’s daughter, Maya, is among the injured, but still living, who were airlifted to Vancouver by BC Emergency Health Services.

She tells CityNews she first heard about the incident from her grandparents but couldn’t understand the details amid the commotion.

“And then we got word that she was hit, and one of the shrapnels went in her neck and in her head, and she was airlifted from Tumbler Ridge to [BC] Children’s Hospital. And that’s where she remains now, in critical care,” said Hunt.

“She’s fighting for her life right now.”

Hunt says Maya is just 12 years old.

Kind of, if it starts being a common occurrence.

The media is trying so hard to hide the guys identity. No one’s even talking about this tragedy much even if it’s one of the worst things to happen in Canadian history. The way they’re saying a “woman in a dress” and “gun person” is so fucked. Just call this guy a shooter, why are we protecting such sick people.

probably because its for the greater good. Having a tranny gunman is just going to fuel animosity towards this very niche and specific group. It'll cause more social disruption and hate.

It's going to come out anyways, and then reinforce the idea that you need to watch some YouTube quack to get the 'real' news.

Just report the fucking facts, no left or right narratives.

Yeah, I should've been clearer in my response. The troubling part is, this isn't the first time and certainly won't be the last. There really is no way to prevent these types of incidents barring some extreme and unlikely measures.

I'm already seeing the culture war starting on FB, a few people on my list are posting about this tranny shooter and that "we've put up enough with these people".

The fallout on this one will most definitely be utilized into this culture war narrative, 100%.

Wouldn't be surprised to hear Trump chiming in soon enough.

At least for the time being, I do not agree with your suggestion that the media is trying hard to hide the shooter's identity.

This is a massive tragedy by Canadian standards. From the official channels, the police is not releasing any information about the shooter. I'd say that is a combination of their standard procedure to not release information to the public until they have a good enough grasp of the facts on the ground, a matter of respect as well as standard protocol to inform family members of the victims first before making the information available to the media / the public.

And at the same time, mainstream media is also showing restrain to not add any further injury to the grieve and hurt that the victim families are already going through. Social media, being the cesspool that it is, on the other hand, isn't holding out on anything.

So just give it a little time. It is standard police practice to release the shooter / suspected criminal's name once they have obtained enough information and established facts. We are literally on the very first morning after the tragic incident. The instant dopamine news hit can wait.

curious where the firearm came from?

I'm sure the liberals will be adding shotguns to their banned firearms list here soon as I understand that's what was used

The shooter was apprehended in the past under the Mental Health Act and taken to a hospital for assessment.

18 years old, so not even a current student and shooting at 12/13 year olds.

I understand that they probably got bullied when younger being transgender in such a small community (2700 ppl?), but shooting at kids man.

i was hoping that I would never have to talk about school shooting with my kids, but now we all will have to.

I must have grown in a very different world. At the third grade, we talked about stabbings, weapons, fights, shootings, and murders. (I'm not making this up.)

You had conversations about someone might be coming to your school to shoot up kids?

Yes, that would be very different than when I grew up.

Yes. There were kids who already had guns living in our neighbourhood and went to our school. I'd like to assume most of us are in the same age group and demographic.

I dunno if I should place the blame on the RCMP or the news reporters, but there are 2 issues at hand that is bothering me:

1) Should the RCMP have elaborated more on the outcome of the mental health assessment? For public interest, I think it is meaningful to know whether the suspect has a history of mental health issues. Simply getting an assessment done, esp if it is just a single one, does not indicate one way or another on this front.

2) With the legally registered guns that were seized (from the suspect), was the suspect the registered owner of those guns? My guess is no, he isn't the legal owner, but I think the RCMP should have told the public about that. Or failing that, reporters should have pressed the police to provide this information. It is also not clear to me whether the legal owner's petition to get the guns back was successful or not. I feel like that bit of information should also have been made clear.
