What kind of school is so underfunded they can't do shooter drills?

1) Should the RCMP have elaborated more on the outcome of the mental health assessment? For public interest, I think it is meaningful to know whether the suspect has a history of mental health issues. Simply getting an assessment done, esp if it is just a single one, does not indicate one way or another on this front.
2) With the legally registered guns that were seized (from the suspect), was the suspect the registered owner of those guns? My guess is no, he isn't the legal owner, but I think the RCMP should have told the public about that. Or failing that, reporters should have pressed the police to provide this information. It is also not clear to me whether the legal owner's petition to get the guns back was successful or not. I feel like that bit of information should also have been made clear. | 1 - It's only day 2 ... some of the questions you have are pretty particular. And I am guessing, they have to work through what is reportable and what is kept under privacy laws. Much of a person's health history is private. I don't know if once a person commits a crime if that enables the police to release a person's private medical history. How is knowing this meaningful to you?
2 - Again, what does it matter if the person legally owned the guns or stole them to commit this crime? I'm not seeing why that would help the avg curious Joe in Vancouver.
I forget which public figure said it but all that information will eventually come but for today and for the next couple of days at least, let's just grieve or take a moment to remember the families who just lost a child.

If I may ask, who are your questions directed to? (Traum?)
Edit: Wow, nice ninja edit!
I'll jump in any way.
1. Are we supposed to treat people with a medical history like sex offenders? Put up a billboard, "Hey, bcrdukes is mentally retarded and might grab your wee wee" for three weeks or something? And as the public, do you use that information to make an informed decision to stay away from bcrdukes?
2. I'm staying out of this one!

I was confused because of the new page and didn't see the red thread leading here.
I guess now I'm a sex offender.

Wasn't there some sort of understanding amongst media to not plaster the shooter's name/face all over the place? In past interviews with previous shooters, many of them admitted this is exactly what they wanted; to be infamous. Focus should be kept on the victims and how to move forward as a society. Grieve our losses, formulate plans to reduce the possibility of this happening again.

Looks like someone asked the RCMP about the mental health front and the shooter being transgender
Also it looks like the shooter transitioned 6 years ago - so 12 years old.. I didn't know children were allowed to take hormone altering drugs.
Investigators are trying to properly identify the ownership or any other parties in relation to the guns

Is it bad that despite all the online threads about this, the media reports, and even a company-wide email from our president with links for crisis support etc, I personally barely gave this two thoughts all day and certainly don't feel anything towards it? Either I'm totally desensitized to this shit, or a heartless bastard. Or maybe I've just been too fucking busy to spare a care.

I think to some degree, we're all jaded by these situations but that's mainly because our neighbours down south have shootings all the damn time that we here about. If no such events happened down south, this would be completely shocking news for a country that rarely ever has this sort of thing happen.

I am just asking the questions that I have in mind out loud -- so it isn't really directed at anyone in particular. So if anyone has any thoughts or responses on those questions, I appreciate them.
With #1, I am fully aware that people's medical history is probably consider pretty private information, and would not easily get disclosed, if at all. Still, if the outcome of the mental health assessment is known, that can shed some light on the motivations (or lack of) for the shooter's act of violence. And if the shooter received an all-clear assessment, then the public will know mental health is less likely to be part of the cause for his murderous rampage.
With #2, the gun ownership issue would directly shed light on how our criminal system as well as our gun control laws operate. It would have been insightful if the RCMP spokesperson had indicated whether the suspected shooter was not the legal owner of the guns that have been confiscated or not. If he was, that could potentially raise questions about how someone who might be suffering from (diagnosed) mental health issues to be eligible to own firearms -- that's a HUGE red flag in our gun control laws. If the gun weren't his, then it raises the quesiton of how we (ie. Canada) treat gun control when we are supposed to have laws around them -- for exaple, it might be appropriate to revoke the guy's legal gun ownership licence since he needs to be held accountable for the guns he owns. Good questions.
The first question that I had when I heard about the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting was "How the heck can a person with a history of mental health issues and prior assessment by medical professionals get access to a handgun??"
I mean Canada has stricter gun laws than the U.S. right??
It's not like I can just walk into Walmart, show two pieces of picture ID, and buy a gun, a hunting rifle etc.

It's not like I can just walk into Walmart, show two pieces of picture ID, and buy a gun, a hunting rifle etc. | I know when I got my PAL I had taken the course with 5 other people, one of those persons was a co-worker and friend of mine. He had been off work prior to this on basically a mental breakdown, when he applied for his PAL they would not give it to him based on the previous mental breakdown approximately 2 years prior.
I can't speak to this specific case but it does seem there are some checks and balances, if the shooter did have a license, not sure if they fell through the cracks or what.
