Labeled as a Street racer?

So I was on my lunch break at work, and I was heading down to the Chevron on Bridgeport to get some cigarettes and some gas.

On my way there, I was going 60 (cruising in 4th gear) and out of nowhere I see the cherries light up while I'm waiting in the left turning lane to get into the Chevron.

We pull over while I'm getting gas by one of the attendants, and the officer asks for my license and registration. He asked me if I knew why I was pulled over, and dumbfounded, I said I didn't know. 60 is past speed limit, but I thought that it was an okay speed since everybody around me was going the same speed. Stupid, I know but it's not like I was going 80+ and cutting people off.

So he instantly replies to me with "you were speeding, and we have your car on record" to which I thought was weird since I just bought this car a month ago. I asked him "this car? may I ask what for?" he tells me that he has my other 240sx's on record for street racing. Both of which have not moved for 2 years, and one going for 3 years and on. I inquired about the accusation, and he mentions a specific group and my ties with them. All just because I have a couple of them on my facebook.

So he takes my license and registration, comes back and hands me a ticket for excessive speeding (41-60km) which I assumed was a note of the speed limit. Pissed off and already 15 minutes past my lunch break, I headed back to work.

I'm disputing the ticket since he gave me the ticket soley on the accusations of me being a street racer.

Any thoughts on how I would fight this?

According to what you have told us, you were ticketed for excessive speed, not street racing. Your dispute would be for the VT that was issued to you...not for any conversation about anything else. How can you dispute something that you were not charged with?

"I thought that it was an okay speed since everybody around me was going the same speed. Stupid, I know but it's not like I was going 80+ and cutting people off." I would suggest that this is NOT a good way to defend yourself. Trying to bring up any conversation that had no bearing on the excessive speeding charge, would not be permitted as it is irrelevant. The court will only hear sworn testimony to support or defeat the charge before it. Save yourself the embarassment of being told this in front of the others in court that day.

you were speeding, he busted you, as far as the infraction goes it doesnt really matter what he said i dont think. but you can do the complaint thing that has been outlined many times before.

^ beat me to it

That's brutal man.. it's one thing for him to give you a ticket but then to flat out tell you your being harassed due to an association with a group. I'm guessing the Van240 guys as they have a pretty bad rep with the po po. Did he specifically mention your facebook or is that your assumption? If he clocked you over the limit... you have no leg to stand on with a dispute. What he said can not be used in court unfortunately.

Berz out.

Since you already know you are going to dispute the ticket, request disclosure and then go from there.

Good Luck.

how does he not have a leg to stand on with a dispute, excessive speed at 60 km/h? were you in a 20 zone? excessive speed is 41-60 OVER the speed limit

if he was going 60, which is 10 over the limit, how is that excessive speeding?

Wouldn't that be a normal speeding ticket?

how much was the ticket? I remember 5 years ago I was in the same situation, driving down gilbert rd. 65 in a 50kmh zone. I think i got about $400 and the cop said something like "you're street racing." I didn't bother disputing as dealing with cops like that in court is useless because if a cop can call going over 10 to 15km racing then he can call or make up more stuff.
Anyways by any chance the cop that pulled you over is it an old brown coloured pontiac grandprix?
