Driving up Seymour in RWD?

I've always gone to Grouse because it's the easiest to get to (and the safest to drive to), but is it safe to drive up Seymour in my RWD? Never been up there before so I don't know what the road conditions are like near the top, even when they say it's "clear".

I have fairly new "all-seasons", which really means 3-seasons. Safe to go up or terrible idea?

it's ok. Just don't be an idiot & drive slowly

BoneThug 02-18-2009 11:01 AM

i wouldnt. but ice and ish scare the hell out of me and boarding isn't worth the risk for me.

Alatar 02-18-2009 03:29 PM

Somewhat depends on the RWD. If it's a mustang, I'd say no. If it's a volvo, I'd say sure.

Seymour's road isn't as well maintained as Cypress, to be perfectly honest. That being said, I've had no issues driving up any of the mountains locally with all seasons and RWD when I had my truck.

Shouldn't be a problem, i guess the biggest worry u have is whether it will be snowing the day you go up... Last year i had my suzuki swift up @ cypress was nice and sunny in the day and then in the afternoon it started to snow pretty bad ... had to go down the mountain super slow since i only had all seasons on a car that basically hydroplans on wet patches. With todays conditions it shouldnt be a problem, just keep updated on the weather.

winter tires with limited slip (ford ) > winter tires with open diff ( volvo)

Went up with the Volvo last year and nearly went off the side LOL...hit a patch of ice going around 40 klicks and almost slid on to oncoming traffic then off the road.

I suck at driving? :lol

I don't even drive up there in the summer in FWD, it is an extremely dangerous mountain road.

no doubt...."extremely dangerous mountain road"???? you've got to be kidding me

RWD is better than FWD when driving up hills in the snow!

+Kardboard+ 02-23-2009 04:17 PM

Better because you can go up sideways! Clearly.

but but but but....

gravity pulls the body weight down and forces it to be places on the rear wheels

if you threw 200 pounds of cinder blocks or bags of sand in your trunk then yes it might make a difference

f = (m) x (a)

no traction = no acceleration = no force

orange7 02-23-2009 09:00 PM

ya.. but you're going up a hill... so wouldn't the weight shift to the rear wheels assuming the hill is quite steep..

blkgsr 02-24-2009 10:16 AM

no

it's been said like 4 times now

FWD > RWD in snow

Orion 02-24-2009 10:20 AM

its not that bad... honestly i wend up cypress on the snowiest day in jan with all seasons FWD... just have to drive slow and cautious... the bus which eagerly sped to pass me ended up in the ditch going down... the roads were closed for hours

Even if that is true, what about coming down the mountain?
