| Rogers 4G, Coming Soon, FIRST to Van-Freakin'-City Quote: - Rogers’ LTE network is currently ahead of its development schedule
- Recent tests have yielded 50 Mbps download speeds without any sort of optimization (woo!)
- Speeds at launch are expected to reach 70 Mbps
- The initial launch of the Rogers LTE network will take place in Vancouver and the surrounding area, in time for the 2010 Olympics (February 2010)
- The service will launch with a USB stick - Rogers is still talking to vendors - but it has no plans to have any 4G-enabled handsets available at that time
- The Rogers 4G network will expand outside of the Vancouver area during Q2 2010
- Rogers will have 4G phones available by the end of Q2 2010 as it extends its 4G network
- Rogers noted that its 3G launch was a mess but it is taking measures to ensure that 4G goes much smoother
| But no phones. HAHAHAHAHAHA http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...ails-revealed/ |

they're probably going to try to limit the phones for it so it's launch does go much smoother

it's about time they consider some kind of CHEAP unlimited 2g or 3g data plan!!
something like $5 unlimited gprs for "regular" internet (not wap) would be nice |

i'm personally not really expecting anything from 4g phone unless they introduce some kind of killer application along with it..
i mean, there isn't much use on the 3g network for me right now. i dont' do video calls, surfing on the net in a small screen isn't very nice, and for the rare times if i do need to use internet, gprs is enough for me needs. unless rogers introduce some kind of super cheap plans to induce people to use internet on their phone. I don't see how rogers can profit from introducing the 4g network
just my 2 cent

Telus and Bell have been testing their LTE networks in Van as well.... It'd be intersting to see who can get it out first AND actually have phones to go with the network.
good stuff, soon all carriers will be using the same technology and hopefully the competition will drop prices down for everyone.

OK, well done. You've succeeded at being ignorant and offensive.
And many of you are not seeing what they're using 4G for. Not just cell phones, no. It's meant to replace your average INTERNET in most places. Cell phones just happen to be on there. |

thanks +Kardboard+ for clarifying how we average people can benefit from the 4G implementation. never knew they going to replace our everyday broadband connection.
hopefully by then price will drop more. i'm paying ~$45 to shaw just for my broadband!! and services isn't that great compare to the japan and korea..
Japan can get 100mbit connection now..

the telecommunications field is one of the fastest growing industries. The goal is the make everything on demand no matter where you are.
Europe is starting to adapt
Verizon is currently testing the network
China Telecom, KDDI, and Telus all plan to set LTE as the 4th generation standard in wireless telecommunications
LTE can do multiple frequency broadcast meaning it will replace the current DVB-H tech for on demand live TV in Japan and such
DO NOT be surprised when these technologies become standard in every laptop we buy.
Rogers fell behind to roll out 3g, then quickly caught up to 3.5g and now 4g is only a year away

it'll be pretty sweet to implement it during the olympics so that people anywhere in town can see what events are happening and see medal counts and so on

the only thing i like about this is maybe the prices for 3g or edge will drop
it's like so what i have internet on my phone, only 1/10 friends that i have pays for internet on their phone here in canada. i feel like a fucking dinosaur. i can't even snap a pic of something and email it to someone for them to see instantly (on their phone)

So....the price for data did drop ($/MB), but there aren't cheaper plans for 'light' data usage yet.

Why would rogers want to cover up something like an LTE launch? Especially since Bell and Telus has already stated (if i remember correctly) they're going LTE once the HSPA network is up. Not to mention Verizon has already announced LTE down south. I'd like to believe it is a cover up but I see no reason they would from my perspective. I'd guess that they wouldn't have it up by Jan. Maybe 3-4Q if anything
