Laptop Screen goes blank need help!

So I have a IBM t42 and its a pretty solid laptop however I've been having issues with the screen lately. When I turn it on it would sometimes boot up fine but more recently its been turning off and going to the point where I can't make out anything or at times I would see outlines of the browser that I'm using.

Leading up to this problem my screen would have a reddish tint then a few seconds later it would be fine again no problems. It would work like normal then this happens now.

It has nothing to do with power saving mode, stand by or anything because I haven't changed any settings and nobody uses my computer. I linked this laptop up to my TV and it worked fine. So I have narrowed it down to the screen.

so for now how do I approach this?
