this reminds me of when i was almost broken into at 5AM... except it wasnt really a break in... instead, it was a drunk/high-off-something 20-30yr old guy bashing our door and climbing over our fence and bashing our backdoor for over 45 minutes and yelling.... oh ya, did i say that i was 4:00 AM? freaked the hell out of my family and I....

That's just a stupid escalation.. especially paintball.. what if the intruder(s) have a gun?
Dog.. what if they are really cops? are you going get all weepy eye on TV and say officers killed your dog because they are out to get your dog?
Chances are intruders already cased your place of residence and probably a bit "off".. best is to be proactive, make your place less attractive to them in the first place.. than to arm yourself.
Not to mention, insurance don't cover you if you fight back. Quote:

ya know what that does when a pook is breaking into your house? nothing. it records him and lets you watch. real b&e's generally take 2-3 minutes. it's amazing how quick someone can go through stuff. if you're lucky cops can arrive quickly but there's no guarantee. and the bottom line is you've already been violated.
i'd rather just prevent the fucker from getting in. now if vandalism was the problem then a video system is more useful. but solid pry proof doors and bars do way more to actually secure the house. and if there was a power outage or something, you're fuxored. a camera system can obviously work in conjunction with good security, but you're putting the cart before the horse.
it's like saying you should get the worlds' most pimp alarm system for your car but you haven't fixed that popped out driver side lock yet.

Start reinforcing your door frames and make sure that they are well-connected with the house structural frames (not just held on by 4 screws). Multiple dead-bolts also help as long as the dead-bolts are long enough to go into the structural frames. Door hinges are also important, make sure all the screws that connect the hinges to the door frame/structural frame are 3" in length at least. Failing to do these, your door will be kicked down quite easily.
Also, are your windows big enough for the robber to break and crawl through? Usually they prefer to kick down the door instead of breaking through the windows; but it's the next thing they will try if they fail to kick down your door.

It's a shitty feeling, isn't it? The same thing happened to me, I was heading out for lunch and on a hunch I turned around (because I saw a car parked in the neighbourhood that I have seen around the previous few days with a couple sketchy guys who looked like they were scoping the place out).
Just make sure to stay vigilant, and protect your property. These disgusting parasites will not go away without force.

ya dogs can be stopped pretty easily, but they are a deterant b/c it's much easier to break into a house without a dog. but any dogs that are like hunters such as german shepards are good. they are smarter than some other dogs out there too.
i got broken into twice the same way. after that we put bars up. it's ugly b/c it looks like a prison, but keeps the trash out

My parents have the most useless anoying dogs ever but they work as a good deterrent. They bark non stop when they hear anything and one of them jumps at the door ramming himself into it. You cannot see them from outside so if you didn't know what was behind the door you would expect a German Shepard or a Doberman when in reality it's a couple of these retards.
Someone actually backed a van up to there garage one day when my mom was home and we're totally looking to break in, back the van into the garage and load up. The retarded dogs sacred them away.
My dog would help the crooks load up the truck and then leave with them. I want to Cane Corso but my wife won't let me until I provide her with another kid. Not sure I'm every going to get one if she won't budge on this requirement.

Not to mention, insurance don't cover you if you fight back. | What do you mean "less attractive", not having tv or computers or not putting anything in the house? How they pick a place to rob is much different compare to the old days now. They just pick ramdomly out of desperation, it is all about your luck.
if you have no experience you wont understand. Some fucks tried to invaded my house twice and i was helpless without any sort of weapon. I dont care what it take to protect my family, even with my life. Paintball is last line of defences, I would splash them with boiling water if I have to.
My ex-gf house has almost zero house protection, crappy locks, no alarm, no window frames, metal bars, mostly only girls home, but they have a huge German shepherd on the balcony, barks all the time, emphasizing its present. And they never got broken into or have anyone got near them. Dog is just like an alarm or a club for a house, fucks will only go for the easier target not the harder target. The point is NO BODY WILL TRY TO FUCK WITH DOGS. Remember I have all that protection my ex doesnt have, except dog but we got cops visited four times in all these years. If dog died it dies, its just an animal, compare to lives of your family.

I have a 110lb rotty and she's the biggest pushover lapdog wannabe but her bark is fierce. I've had her on the deck and friends have come over and been scared off because she was there on the railing barking at them. They called me, I didn't even know they were in the driveway. Any stranger that comes that she doesn't know calls or leaves when she'd on the deck as well. (the deck wraps around most of the house and includes the front door)
Completely harmless though, my best friend came over once and he had a toque on so she didn't recognize him and was on the driveway barking. He lifted his coat over his head and ran at her, and she freaked and ran away from him hahahaha

Plus if they do grab stuff out of my house such as a tv or whatever, they would have to get in a car or run down the street with it.

If your house has window bars, a dog, alarm system w/ window decals and other deterrents while your neighbor's house doesn't, unless this is a targeted break and enter, guess who's house they're most likely to break into? The easier one of course.
Picture two houses side by side with bikes that aren't locked up sitting in front of it. One house has a fence and the other doesn't. It's more likely the bike in front of the house with no fence is going to get stolen.

I got a quote today for bulletproof (shatter proof) windows and patio doors that I'm most likely going to install. Marginally more than glass (which I was going to replace anyways) but this way I can rest assured that they can't get in the house except going through the door which is already pry proof.

Less attractive to the thief = have updated windows / door, clean up the yard with no place to hide etc. BIG lights. Quote:

1) clean up the yard
2) get someone to look at all your door and windows, they got into our sliding glass door because the screws holding the metal tab that gets hooked onto weren't all the way at the ends, so they could get a bar in there and yank it open
3) get an alarm, but get stickers from a different alarm company (get a friend with a different system to call and ask for more stickers as the old ones are peeling or w/e) as some thieves know how disable certain alarms and actually specifically target those houses
4) wall safe behind something in the closet
and you should be good to go.

There are only 4-5 alarm manufacturers in the US (Tyco, Honeywell or 2 of them).. different alarm companies just have different monitoring numbers..
It is better to reinforce your phone line to out of the house (a lot of people just have a wire hang out).. or have wireless alarm system. Quote:
