| best place to buy a tv? 5.1 surround?
It seems London drugs is $200 more then best buy on almost every tv. I always read how expensive best buy is. Buying a tv is impossible so many different makes and models, 1080p, 120hz, contrast ratio, plasma, lcd. Shit is fucking annoying.

well for most people that are gonna spend over $1500 on a merchandise, usually they like to do some research before the purchase. If it's "fucking annoying", dont bother buying one then.

Visions. There warrenty is pretty sweet too. You buy the warrenty, if you don't use it at the end of the term you get the warrenty back in the form of a instore credit.

All big box stores generally have the same price. Alot of the models that looks the same are not the same. If you want to get the best bang for the dollar you yourself will have to do the research. It's like buying a car. If you jump the gun and buy the wrong product, you have no one to blame but yourself. It's definately not easy, I spent about 1.5 weeks researching before I bit the bullet and bought one.
Everywhere you go for an opinion, it's always going to be different. So rather than rely on other people, you should do your own research so you don't get tricked into or falsely sold on something.
Things you need to determine BEFORE you pick a TV
-size of tv
-dimensions of room
-lighting conditions in the room (ie. lot of sunlight in the room?)
-what you plan on using it for (HDTV, Bluray, gaming, etc)
-wall mounting or not
-budget for TV
Things you need to determine BEFORE you pick a theatre system
-size of room
-are the walls well insulated
-in apartment or house
-purpose of the system (more for movies or music?)
-budget
-how much space for speakers

if researching what TV you want is fucking annoying, just go into futureshop and ask them to sell you a TV. youd be amazed at how eager they are to help.

Do you have at least a price range and a set of features that are "must have" features? If so, list them out here and perhaps it might be easier to recommend something/somewhere to buy from.

So im leaning towards LCD but people keep telling me that the new plasmas are better with no chances of burn in. Must be 1080p and im not sure about 120hz because there has been alot of complaints about it. The 5.1 doesnt need to be crazy because i live in a condo.

for a condo-size 5.1 surround system, look at whats available in a home theater in a box. they usually come with the receiver, 5 speakers and a sub and are usually cost effective because they arent overkill for a condo. too many people spend too much money on their surround setup when most people cant turn it up passed 30% anyway.
$2200 for a TV will get you a pretty decent 46". I dont have much experience with 120hz but I understand its good for gaming. Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba for LCD.

$2200 for a TV will get you a pretty decent 46". I dont have much experience with 120hz but I understand its good for gaming. Sharp, Sony, Samsung, Toshiba for LCD. | Having bigger speakers isn't about turning it up louder, it's about sound quality. You need more surface area to play lower frequencies. Hence why tweeters are usually so small (they need to move up to 20,000 times in one second), mid range woofers usually range from 4-8", then sub woofer's usually are 8-15". The bigger the woofer the lower the frequency it plays, but the slower it plays. Mid range woofers are not subwoofers, and subs aren't mids. So when you have dinky little 1.5-3" satellite speakers they tend to lack the depth and warmth in the sound (in vocals especially)
I purposely bought a "HTIB" (Home theatre in the box) for my Playstation 2 because my place was small. BOy did I regret it, satellite speakers in general have puny drivers and tend to sound dull. I ended up getting towers with two 6.5" drivers and it made a HUGE difference. Again I don't blast the music nor turn it up super loud. But when you're playing games/movies, having a bigger fuller sounding pair of speakers makes the experience more enjoyable. Just imagine having lots of treble and lots of bass....but lacking the mid range. It kills everything. But hey maybe I'm just picky.
I myself opted for the 120hz. Some people love it, some hate it. I personally don't mind it, but my gf doesn't like it. You can usually adjust it on the TV too, so if you like it and your gf hates it then you can turn it down/off. I notice a big difference in gaming though.
Plasma's tend to have richer colours, and aren't as unreliable as before. But they still have their pro's and con's. Plasma's need to be broken in to properly calibrate it. Plasma's are prone to burn it. They are alot better, and have technologies to help prevent it. But in my experience selling newer Panasonic, Hitachi, Samsung plasma's they are in fact prone to burn in. BUTTTT keep in mind in a store where someone forgets to put a movie on repeat and the image stays still for 5-8 hours on a alsmot daily basis, then yeah you will get burn in. But for everyday home use, I can't really see how anyone could burn in an image.
