APEXi Review

Hey I was wondering if any s14 240sx owners are rocking the apexi n1 evolution exhaust or n1 evolution street coilovers. They are a bit pricey but from what I see they are quality parts. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

You're better off posting on Zilvia.

Apexi coilovers = junk.

Take it to a shock dyno and you'll see that it's a total POS.

If you want a good set of coilovers for the money, pick up a set of the RS-R coilovers designed by a former Porsche Club Cup suspension engineer.

H&R coilovers use Bilstein shocks so the ride will be pretty stiff/harsh but they're valved properly accordingly to accomodate the spring rates included. Best part is that you can rebuild/revalve the shocks if and when they do blow and if you want to change the springs.

I have a apexi N1 evo exhaust.

looks awesome. but fitment wasn't the best. i think it sounds good too, it's not horridly loud, but loud none the less.

it sometimes rubs against my driveshaft. but i think that problem has since subsided.

bought it about 1.5 years ago for $480 i think at MFRT's DTP sale

Zilvia. Seriously.

Ask Dousan_PG about DG5 coilovers. He'll tell you they're the best ever. But he says that about each new coilover he gets..sooo.

Stance works. It's cheapo and they go low low. Tried and true by most people of Zilvia, and they all love it.

PBM Works too. THey go stupidly low. Way lower than Stance. 10/8. Monotube. Apparently they work great, and they're slightly cheaper than Stance.

Apexi's okay. The EXV's are the same as Megan Racings since they're outsourced to the same people. Quality of parts may be different, but they're built in the same place which is what gives them a bad name.

Tein's are shit.

Price isn't too much of a concern, I wanted to stick with APEXi for some continuity that's all. Plus, I've heard nothing but bad things about ksport.

I was talking to someone at MFRT as well as Z tune the N1 evo street coilvers are so not worth the money

iirc they're 2000+ and they're not suitable for the street. they're more like track coil overs.

For that price i'd get something like KW's.
i've also heard bad things about ksport, but you're always going to hear bad things, which is why it's taken me so long to choose what to get for myself.

Derr... yeah. That's a useful post.

I've done at least a dozen sets- custom apps. Never an issue.

Damper Valving wasn't set up for the spring rates given.

Thats the fail part with 80% of coilovers out there.

Well they're cheap for a reason. There are issues with the valving, rusting, not being durable, and the need for rebuilding waaaay too soon.

you're better off asking on zilvia or something to be honest, not a lot of S14 owners on the board, and from what i know of the few that are on here, they don't have setups like what you're looking for.

but who knows someone knowledgeable might chime in.

Yeah I'd be careful with Apexi stuff, it seems they're almost along the same lines as Megan, D2, BC etc coilovers these days. Not that they're necessarily crap, but you gotta be a little more careful because they're more value oriented. Possibility of more squeaking and rattling noises, higher probability of having to send it out for revalving (may or may not be under warranty), higher possibility of running into issues with corrosion, that sorta thing.

The shocks are probably not rebuildable.
