Block Heater Questions

I'm moving to University of Western for schooling in a few months and some of my friends mentioned that I may need a block heater over there.

I'll be driving a 2005 Honda CR-V over, dose anyone know what are the indications for a block heater and if I'll need one or not. If so, would anyone be able to recommend any shops locally that will do the install?
