This is an opportunity to own a very rare and very desirable Porsche, as I have to sell one of my 2 cars, and sadly, this one is just too impractical to justify keeping.
Here is the story.
I had been looking for a 968 for many, many months, after owning three 944s and one turbo 944 (951) in previous years - they just get in your blood, as anyone that's owned one will testify. The 968 is the pinnacle and ultimate successor in the 944 series and since their inception in '92 (unlike the previous 944s) were built alongside the coveted 911s in Zuffenhausen.
They come equipped with a torquey and smooth - yet raw - inline 4 cylinder, 3 liter motor putting out 240 HP. Even to this day, there are not many naturally aspirated 4's that can brag that kind of power, and in its' day, they were untouched. The real beauty of the series is the absolute stellar and sublime handling characteristics that defy description. Often called one of the best handling cars ever produced, they are still formidable in track events globally. They are a perfect 50/50 weight balanced car and extremely tossable and forgivable - and fun! I have had over 30 cars in my life and this tops them all. You will lose your nerve before the car loses its' ability to keep up with your demands.
The car originated from Japan and has full documentation that shows the previous owners committment to maintain the car, although it is in Japanese! The mileage is all there, however, and it can be seen that there was very consistent maintainance. It was brought over to Vancouver island 3 years ago, and then purchased from a fellow on the North Shore.
The car is classic Guards Red with a perfect black interior, with partial leather seating. The paint is gorgeous, though if I were to keep it, I'd likely get the roof repainted from the hot sun that it has endured, but other than that, it is absolutely stunning. I mention the roof only because I am very, very fastidious about detail and care and the average - even anal - owner, would probably not even care. The interior is easily a 9.5 out of 10. Everything works exactly as it should, though this is not a heavily optioned out car. No moonroof or lsd/MO30 suspension The standard power windows, power seats (both), A/C, central locking, factory alarm, powered heated mirrors, power hatch release and dual front airbags. Everything is top notch and operates as it should - no surprises. There are a few minor things I'd tend to if I kept it, but again, you'd likely never notice. The seats (with scripted 'Porsche' front and rear) are absolutely pristine.
In the last 6 months, the car has had some important work done to it, and as it sits, it is in need on nothing.
It has 95000 original km's.
In September, the timing and balance shaft belts/tensioners and water pump were all replaced (at SCAN automotive in N.Van) as well as a complete and comprehensive tune up 1 month after, consisting of new plugs, oil and fuel filter, cap and rotor.
In October, I had an unfortunate age related flywheel dampener failure which had to be fully replaced. Basically, the equivalent of replacing the clutch on a 6 speed.....to the tune of $3000. It was one of those things that just happens as the rubber deteriorates with age - not mileage - but it was done properly and the car drives flawlessly and beautifully. In case I haven't mentioned it, it is a tiptronic. A 4 speed, dual-mode unit with an adaptive 'brain' that can remap and maodify shift points based on driving style - very cool feature for the time. Some will write the car off because of not having the manual - believe me, I was so close to doing the same......until I came to realize how great a unit the tip is when applied to the car. Essentially, a clutchless manual, you have the option of selecting drive and letting the car dicate the drive, or you can run the car thru the 4 speed tip with a 'paddle' to the right, and get the 'feel' of the manual, without the day to day burden of stop and go traffic and constant fear of a clutch failure. It really is the best of both worlds and I was converted even after a blisteringly fast and fun 5 speed turbo 944 (which cost me $4000 to replace the clutch on!) Once rolling, the car is a rocket, and they are reported to be able to top out at over 250km/h.....of course, I've never dared try, but speed builds deceptively quickly and it's rock solid at speed.
The car is essentially stock except for a few minor but beneficial add ons. It has an Autothority chip and a partial 3" high flow stainless steel exhaust set up (with new free flow 3" muffler). Mechanically, nothing else. Pictured are the stock 17" Cup wheels but they have been replaced with 17" Boxster 'twists' (much nicer!) As well, a new Sony stereo with 6 X 9s discreetly hidden have been added.
The car rides and tracks straight and true and there are zero squeaks or rattles - they are built like a tank, though they are fairly stiff, but far from uncomfortably so.
This car will be very, very missed as it is probably the finest car I've owned in every capacity. Amazing handling, more than sufficient power, decent mileage (about 500 kms per tank, city - or 20-22 mpg) and room for 4! Plus, with the back seat folded down, room for 2 bikes! I'm not kidding - take the front wheels off, and 2 mountian bikes will tuck in the back - hatch closed! The ultimate Porsche, imho!
Plus, another fabulous thing about the 968s is the rarity and exclusivity. Sure, we all love the 911s - my personal favorite - but you will see 10 911s for every 1 968 on the road. I don't have the production stats, but I've been told there are somewhere around 4-5000 of these brought to North America in the full 4 year run of the car! Imagine how many of those are in Canada! I have run into one other red on black locally (mine was nicer) and they will certianly hold their value as time goes on......consider it a rock solid investment you can enjoy daily! These were $60000 cars when new, so they are far from a 'entry level' Porsche - though, I guess based on the lineage of the marquee, they were the most affordable.

I am in no hurry to sell the car, though one of my 2 has to go - but I am offering this first as it is simply not being driven as much as my BMW. If it doesn't sell, I will then offer my 328. I realize times are tough - to say the least - but I will not be giving this car away anytime soon. But I am willing to entertain reasonable and serious offers.
You will not be dissappointed and you will be very hard pressed to find a nicer, lower mileage example with extensive records and recent work and needing very, very little - if anything - to make absolutely perfect.
I can be reached at (604)809-7604 and I live in Vancouver.
Cheers!
