Don't upgrade to the latest 2.2.1 firmware unless you are not planning to unlock it.

The biggest thing for me is typing on an on-screen keyboard requires more patience than I have. I have an iPod touch, which is basically the same as an iPhone, but I refuse to use it for anything other than listening to music because I don't have the patience to type on an on-screen keyboard (typing emails and URLs was so painful). Although it's the best on-screen keyboard I've ever used, you still can't beat the speed and accuracy of a physical keyboard. So if you plan to type a lot (which I assume you are because you want a blackberry), then its something you may wish to consider. Other than the whole typing thing, I think it works pretty good.

Like somebody else said...borrow one and try it out...I'm sure you have a friend or two that own one.
