I think I got scammed?

I am buying a mass air flow sensor from an online forum tt.net for my car. I paypal'ed the guy money. He then gave me a tracking number on march 3rd and said he shipped it out. Everything seemed ok, until I checked the tracking number, which is 70060810000628142863 for USPS.

according to USPS:
Label/Receipt Number: 7006 0810 0006 2814 2863
Associated Label/Receipt:
Detailed Results:

Delivered, March 03, 2009, 10:01 am, AURORA, CO 80015
Notice Left, February 25, 2009, 3:00 pm, AURORA, CO 80016
Arrival at Unit, February 25, 2009, 8:40 am, AURORA, CO 80015

which clearly says it's been delivered to another address. I've e-mailed the seller a few times asking to double check the tracking number but he insist it is the correct one and I will be getting the item soon. It feels sketchy and I think I got scammed. what should I do? file a paypal? please help!

pandalove 03-11-2009 06:49 PM

Uh... I don't think that's the case. PayPal should check to WHICH address it was sent to, and if it's not his address, it should be sufficient grounds for a chargeback...

pandalove 03-11-2009 06:58 PM

hmm thats true ...or he bought it from a local place
or he jus did the tracking thing so paypal can't do anything after u sent the money

invader 03-11-2009 06:58 PM

Ricky, why don't you just buy one locally from Dan @ the z shop?

Trust me, they DON'T. Personal experience, as long as it was shipped out and seller has the tracking number, you're left on your own.

Please tell me you used your CC on Paypal...

Hondaracer 03-11-2009 07:02 PM

sometimes trackers do that, it will say its delivered and the info will be fucked up then it will show up a day or 2 after

Boostaholic 03-11-2009 07:08 PM

from seller:

Date: Tue, 3 Mar 2009 09:33:43 -0800
From: bmxtray88@yahoo.com
Subject: RE: 300zx maf
To:

just sent out the maf via usps heres the tracking number 7006 0810 0006 2814 2863 thanks for being patient with me!

while tracking number says :Arrival at Unit, February 25, 2009, 8:40 am, AURORA, CO 80015

the dates don't even match up, can paypal say anything about that???

and yes I used my credit card.

Sky_2000 03-11-2009 07:18 PM

Label/Receipt Number: 7006 0810 0006 2814 2863
Status: Delivered

Your item was delivered at 10:01 AM on March 3, 2009 in AURORA, CO 80015.

I would just open a dispute with paypal ASAP. The seller will then have to provide a valid tracking number for your item. And if the item does not say it was delivered to your house then paypal will most likely give you back your money. I have gotten tons of random tracking numbers before and usually when i file a dispute on paypal I get a refund me (never been declined a refund). Sometimes they take a long time to do and sometimes they don't it depends on the CS rep helping you.

USPS Tracking is horrible, usually tells you nothing. If he really did ship it out on the 25th, you might want to give it at least till the end of the week. You do have what 40 days to file a claim?

That's retarded. What good is verifying a tracking number when you don't verify the information for the tracking number?

Worse case, if PayPal won't help you, then do a chargeback directly through your credit card.

Boostaholic 03-11-2009 07:48 PM

I've opend a dispute and sent seller the following:

Mr Herrera,

I am opening a dispute because the tracking number 7006 0810 0006 2814 2863 that you provided in the e-mail is invaid. It clearly shows the item is delivered to your own address. Please provide a valid tracking number for Mass air flow sensor mailed to the address:
xxxx Moncton St Richmond BC Canada, xxx xxx
to resolve this issue.

Thank you

invader 03-11-2009 07:49 PM

Did you try $$$$$?

rslater 03-11-2009 07:49 PM

Call the police in this guys city. Who knows...maybe they'd be done to take a nice trip to the kids house.

But the seller claim he shipped it out on the 3rd. I actually e-mailed him piror asking if he shipped it out. this is what he said on the 28th:

Date: Sat, 28 Feb 2009 10:37:07 -0800
From: bmxtray88@yahoo.com
Subject: RE: 300zx maf
To:

sorry about the delay i will be shipping it shortly. i just been working a lot of overtime and havent had a chance. ill get the the tracking as soon as i ship it out

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
and I noticed something else. paypal used my credit card as backup and took money directly out of my bank account.

no i didn't actually.

Boostaholic 03-11-2009 07:54 PM

and the seller also said this on the 9th of march after i asked him about the tracking number:

"thats not true i have checked and it is on its way and thats the correct tracking number."

I'm not sure where he is checking the tracking number but the website clearly shows it's delivered.

why is it a bad idea to use a CC on paypal?

Carl Johnson 03-11-2009 08:03 PM

i think it's pretty clear this is guy is just playing games with you

Carl Johnson 03-11-2009 08:05 PM

It's a good idea to use CC in this case because Visa or Mastercard might be able to go after the seller for you i think. Other wise if you used debit than you already fork out the cash and pretty much left on your own.

bbbj 03-12-2009 12:57 AM

Is he Mexican?

Autorice 03-12-2009 03:51 AM

file the reversal, raise it to a dispute, if the seller cannot prove it arrived at your address, paypal will refund you his money. if they cannot get it from his paypal account, contact your backup funding source, you just need to fill out a form and the bank will return your money immediately.
