buying telus phones

quick question guys im planning on buying a htc diamond from someone on craigslist and i was wondering what i have to do so that my number is on that phone and that telus knows about it. also the plan isnt under my name will that affect anything

When you meet the person, call telus and give them the serial number to check if its not stolen. Then tell them you want to activate it on your account. The former owner will confirm the details then the transfer should be made. If the seller on CL gives you any issues about confirming the phone, then don't do the deal.
