Anyone that posts in threads other than the OP will receive points. The only exception is if the item is either stolen or a fake. Anything like "PM'ed" or chatting in the thread will result in points.

This rule has been up since the emergence of the B&S. It will now be regulated strictly because of the increase traffic.

that's a good idea. I hate seeing people chat up in a thread.. and the post gets bumped like 1000x in 1 hour.

If you feel the OP does not provide enough info, feel free to PM him and if you really feel that everyone needs to know, report the post and I'll deal with it and make sure the OP provides enough info.

HI i like revscene
but i understand that you want to prevent traffic with too much B&S
and slow down the traffic, but isnt lots of traffic is even better than low traffic?
i thought web sites to make money is because of lots of traffic and you get sponsors paying you for advertising.
But if you start to put too many rules, then less people will be checking in
and you might start to have less traffic
if you have low traffic what company want to pay for advertising when less and less people will look at your web site?
i started to notice that revscene has less people viewing than used to be
(well i might be wrong but that is my feeling)
anyways i just want the best for revscene so it is something to discuss.
well i am talking in the classified section

I am so confused about what you just said.

I don't want to lower traffic in RS but rather stop all the posts that are unfairly bumping threads. This will cause an unfair advantage to buyers whos threads are bumped and a disadvantage to those who aren't as they are pushed down. That would infact reduce traffic because the same threads will be shown over and over again.

Again, I have no idea just what you are saying. Perhaps I'm on crack right now and can't understand.

And RS is having an INCREASE in traffic and this is why I am reiterating this rule. But then again, reading comprehension may be compromised a la crack.

Or maybe it's just me. I don't know.

What do you want us to do when OP's PM box is full, cuz that happens all the time. With this new rule we can't ask questions or tell OP to clear his inbox.

to make it short

i was saying that isnt it better for revscene to have more people to watch, buy or sell the better it is?
if you guys are starting to make more rules, making it more complicated, members will start giving up and post on other web sites.
then you will have lower traffic for sure

i understand that you guys want to stop the B&S that has nothing to do to the thread.
but now you are saying that we cant even post

Why would you want to tell them you pmed them back? Once there's a new message, those popup window would showup saying they got a new message from w/e user.

As well, when they are selling something its almost garanteed that they are going to get pmed unless they are too stupid.

what about other cases like
the seller is selling at an incredibly rip off price, and u want to let them and other ppl know so the seller does not gain an unfair profit

or theres a previous history of the phone, such as it was damaged before... the previous buyer bought it and tries to flip it for a huge profit?

should we relegate these to pms or can we just post on the thread?

Those would be one of the few exceptions that will not result in points.

And as per making new rules, this rule has been here since the emergence of the B&S. I am simply going to reinforce it more strictly than it was in the past as this is becoming a huge issue with bumping and pointless chatter.

This is in no way making a new rule and I highly doubt I will be turning away posters. People who are not motivated to sell and to check their own PM boxes (for messages or if it is full) really have no motivation to actually sell.

And I am in no way saying lowering the traffic is better or am I saying that the traffic we're getting bad. This is just becoming an issue that the mods need to address.

I understand that you're trying to cut down on the useless "free bumps" and excessive traffic BUT if the information provided by the OP is lacking, wouldn't you think it would be advantageous to just ask about the missing info (in the thread) rather than have 10 people PM the guy asking the same question.

Even if he does answer his PM's, there's no assurance that he's going to update his thread. At least if it's posted/answered in the thread, there won't be a need for excessive PM usage.

Also, sometimes the OP posts wrong or incomplete info that can be corrected by another member who knows more about the item for sale (especially when it comes to specifications). By not allowing pertinant questions or additional info on the thread, all parties may be less informed.

Lastly, speaking as a mod on other boards, don't you think you'd be spending a crap load more time dealing with "reported posts" ?

I think getting rid of the "free bump", "nice wheels", "pm'd", "wish I could afford it", not pertinant to the sale type posts would be adequate.

That is certainly a good point. If you feel the thread does not have enough info, you could just report the post and I will take care of it. After finding the information, I can edit the post for the OP (if the OP has not done so already) then everything should be dandy. Sure this is more work for the mods but the mods here in the B&S are a dedicated team.

I always believed that a good seller would always list everything that is pertinent to his ad to insure a quick and easy transaction. I also always believe that if the seller didn't care about selling, the ad would be incomplete and presented in a bad format lacking info and description. This may not be the case all the time, but it is certainly an indicator of how dedicated the seller is towards making that particular transaction.

We are at RS have also been playing around with a set formatter that will show all the info a potential seller would want. That is also in the works. When creating a thread, it will have a fill out form with boxes that you fill out and should cover a wide enough range to satisfy all buyers. And this will make all threads look the same so any info can be easily accessed.

I guess this is the part where not allowing posts becomes a hinderance. It limits the search to be done by a mod and/or the OP. Another member might know the product, spec, service and it's inner-workings off the top of his head and be discouraged to post it.

I agree that sellers should post detailed info but it doesn't always cover 100% of the inquiries.

Good luck trying to sort it out though - keeping the board running smoothly and users content. Like I said, I'm a mod on a couple of other boards and it's not an envious task.

I've always gone by this rule: Anything that will help the OP sell their phone, can be posted. Typically this would be the specs of the phone if it isnt posted, or the OP is unsure.

Anything like questions, if the op is missing some information, random chit chat can all be sent through pm.

Comments such as "nice phone man!" or "these sell for cheaper at x location" are unnecessary, and should remain off the boards.

Also dont forget, there is option to "report a post." If a post is reported, I get an email notification on my phone. If I'm able to, I deal with it accordingly. I'm sure other mods respond to these reported posts when they can as well.
