Genesis

Pretty sweet car overall, seen a couple in person and they look alot nicer than they do in pictures. The prices are actually really damn good compared to a Mustang, Challenger or new Camaro, not sure what else its competing with but.. $34,995 final, delivered sale price on a 3.8L, 6spd manual, limited slip, leather, full power package, Infinity sound system, HID headlamps, 306hp, 19" wheels, well equipped car for the price. Can get even more fancy with an extra $2000 and get the GT package, it comes with all the luxury options, Brembo brakes, Strut tower bars, performance suspension etc..

Then theres the cheaper 2.0L Turbo models.. pretty sweet aswell.

first and only Hyundai ive ever liked, I love it.

dustinb 03-15-2009 04:42 PM

I think it's an amazing car. The 2.0T is where it's at, seeing as how it's the same powerplant used in Mitsubishi Evo's. Ton's of potential.

Black SC2 03-15-2009 06:44 PM

I was more excited about the 2.0T before I found out it weighs 140lbs more than the V6 Mustang it's supposed to compete with, and makes about 10% less torque. It'll be nice to see some real world numbers on the performance of the car once some magazines get their hands on some production mules for testing.

The value still looks to be there with this car though, as the price is relatively low, and the stock feature list seems pretty long.

rental_metard 03-15-2009 11:11 PM

is the 2.0T still rwd?

And apparently 5 point multi link suspension, while even a pricey Porsche 911 has a Mcpherson strut. After finally seeing the car in person twice I actually don't think it looks too bad, despite my initial reaction to pictures. The font end should look cleaner in my opinion though.

I too think there are a few angles on the front that look sort of ugly, but the rest of the car I think is pure sex. The side profile and rear are amazing.

As Christian pointed out, I am also disappointed by how heavy the car is, but with the right mods and about 400 wheel horse, this car would be absolutely insane. It's so refreshing to see a car manufacturer bring out a RWD sports coupe that is priced where people can actually afford it. Kudos to Hyundai.

Hyundai CEO says early Genesis Coupe sales numbers are "simply smoking"

I'll be all over one of these... in about 3-5 years when used ones start coming up.

From Autoblog/ Edmunds: DYNO results on the 2L T -

As much as we're impressed by the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and its big, optional V6 engine, it's the little 2.0-liter turbocharged four banger that we're most excited about. The idea of a (relatively) lightweight and inexpensive rear-wheel drive coupe with a six-speed manual transmission is enough to make us weak in the knees, and the fact that it comes in a nice looking wrapper is an added bonus. Inside Line managed to score an early example from Hyundai equipped just the way we like it, and their testers have kindly strapped it on the dyno.

Fortunately, the results don't disappoint, with the force-fed motor putting out 197 horsepower at the rear wheel and a peak of 227 lb-ft of torque at just 2500 rpm. Those figures compare very favorably with Hyundai's factory ratings of 210 ponies and 223 lb-ft, meaning that this little Korean's power is probably underrated by a fair margin. Looking at the graphs, it's also clear that there's plenty more to be extracted with a bit of tuning and a proper (uncrimped) exhaust system.

I bought the 3.8 on Saturday and love it so far. Goes in tomorrow for rims and tint, more plans to come down the road.

I know, I know it's a Hyundai but this is not Hyundai you have ever driven I can guarantee you that!

Is your car a white one? If so I think you were following me home from work up Craigflower yesterday. Nice looking car.

Still waiting for springs to lower it but that will come in time. Also the picture doesn't do the rims justice IMHO but more to come on Sunday when it's nice and I have the day off to take more. Its raining off and on and I melt in it, so no more pictures today. ;)

projectcivic 03-21-2009 07:35 AM

Nice, those wheels look awesome on it. I saw a black one a few days ago with I think were stock wheels and I personally didn't like it. It reminded me of the tiburon but you set up looks really good.

Enraged 03-21-2009 08:44 AM

definetly needs a drop.

i was looking at the 2.0 GT model, but decided to wait to see what kind of aftermarket support that car is going to have, and for the prices to drop.

Deisle 03-23-2009 08:01 PM

superman 403 03-26-2009 05:48 PM

Newest photo when out cruising around today. I think the 1" drop will help the look of the stance.
