get your company to backup their emails

What email system is your company using? If it's Exchange, you can go into Outlook and export all your items to a .PST file.

its thru network solutions

and i don't want to use outlook, just seeing if there is another solution for this

Hmm... exactly how were you thinking of doing the backup?

I mean, is your company just using POP3 or IMAP?

Seeing as how Network Solutions is more of a domain registrar and/or a web hosting service, and not a dedicated email service provider, I doubt they provide backups from their end.

My former company used a dedicated email service provider, and we were able to request a full backup of all of our hosted email accounts on a DVD.

But normally, I don't think there's any easy solution that you're trying to find... using an email client like Outlook is what I've done.

if its on your server can you not just copy the files to the new server?

if they're downloaded into Outlook, just export/import the message folders.

Lotus note is probably the best for corporate emailing system, but I guess it's not that popular.

could go the old fashioned tedious painful route of forwarding all your emails to yourself elsewhere.
