Weird virus/spyware?

So I'm having this weird issue with Firefox. Virus scans and spyware scans turn up nothing.

Every so often, totally randomly, FF will just close. No error, nothing, just close. When I restart it, it informs me it didn't shut down properly, and I can restore the session.

Also, every so often when I go to a site through a google search, even if I've been before, it'll forward from that site to some random search engine (not always the same one), sometimes porn related, sometimes not. I can just click back and all is well...Until FF closes randomly again.

This computer, before you guys all say it, doesn't get used for porn, so does anyone know what the hell is going on?

If you run Firefox in safe mode, does it still do the same thing? Check the add-ons (tools > add-ons), and see if there's anything suspicious.

reformat your computer.

it's most likely you installed an unwanted toolbar or something,

if you have an antivirus program you should do a full system scan.

Tried both, updated AVG, tried that. No luck, none of them found anything. Short of formatting (not that I'm against it, it's just a pain in the ass), any other ideas?

That was my thought too, but wouldn't the latest AVG have a fix for it?

Had the same problem a while back. Try updating or reinstalling Firefox.

Thanks for the help so far everyone.

So here are the updates:
I don't have a system restore point.

I tried malwarebytes, in regular and safe mode. No luck.
Tried Spytbot in regular and safe mode. No luck.

Updated to the latest AVG (8.5), but it won't update, so I downloaded the update manually and ran it. Found nothing.

Downloaded the latest Ad-Aware, but it won't get past the loading screen, it says loading then disappears and shuts down.

I don't think I'm way out on a limb thinking this isn't a problem limited to my FF. Any ideas?

If all else fails I'm just gonna wipe this stupid thing.

my uncle had that exact same problem. he google searches, but whichever link he clicks on, it redirects him to a random website. the only difference between my uncle and yours is that he never experienced the trouble of saying it never shut down properly. running malwarebytes for a full system scan solved his problem.
