Footlocker/Champs

I'm looking to work a retail job now and I would love to help my shoe addiction by working at a Footlocker or Champs. Do you guys know what the starting wage is for any of them? I'm hoping a little more than $8.00 but yeah I'm just wondering, thinking ahead so I can apply in April/May. That way I have a job for summer. Also, if any of you guys have worked there how is it?

Working at Foot Locker/Champs won't help your shoe addiction. It'll make it a lot worse, TRUST ME!

Foot Locker pays $8.15 starting and Champs pays about the same give or take a couple cents. The best time to apply is near back to school or near Christmas since that's their busy seasons. Their Part-times usually turn Full-time during the summer so they won't be as willing to hire.

Also, Pacific Centre and Foot Locker couldn't agree on a new lease agreement so the employees there will probably be scattered amongst the existing stores... even making your chances slimmer of getting hired.

I would just try Champs... it'll be easier to get into because you won't have to do the P.A.S.S. III exam before employment. If you fail the test they can't hire you. It happened to me the first time before my manager really wanted me there and did the test for me haha.

It's not the most glamorous job in the world but in the short term it's pretty fun if you work with people you can get along with. If it's something you really want to do then you have to be persistent at it even if they turn you down at first. I didn't get hired at Champs until after my interview with the third Champs store that called me... I got considered at Foot Locker and got turned down because of the P.A.S.S. III... went back for another interview, got hired... quit a year later and got hired at another Foot Locker. I had interviews with New Age, TWICE! and they still turned me down because of a "lack of product knowledge." Foot Locker asked me to be their Nike Rep for Vancouver. I accepted before some shit came down and I quit a month later.

Oh by the way, if you can differentiate the difference between a Dunk and an Air Force 1 you're already miles ahead of everybody else that works there! There's probably like 2 or 3 people in each store that actually know their product. If you have any other questions just ask!

^^^ wow, people who works there can't tell the difference between a dunk and an air force? it says right on the box!

then i guess ppl who work at Livestock or Dipt will be considered as having a PhD in shoes at footlocker/champs

I'm referring to when the shoe is on the wall and somebody got lazy and didn't put the SKU on it. Most employees I've worked and dealt with can't figure out the difference.

Hell, I even had to train people and tell them there's a difference between AF1 mids and AF1 highs.

Wow they can't tell the difference between an AF1 and Dunks haha. Thats terrible, no well atleast I can do that. Footlocker just seems like a hassle then. I may just stay at nissan then for the rest of the summer and then apply later.

If it's something you want to do then I'd apply. You never know the store's current situations. Two years ago at around this time my store had the worst shrink ratio out of all Foot Lockers in BC... the district manager came in, set appointments with each employee and interrogated all of us and accused five guys of internal theft and fired them all. Even though I thought it was bullshit we hired some pretty cute girls during the slow season because of that haha.

Tried BOTH FL and Champs, never got called back from either. In addition I used to work in retail at Bluenotes, and the pressure to sell kinda sucks.

There's not much pressure to sell shoes/clothing at Foot Locker. They only keep track on socks, shoe care products and insoles since those rake in the biggest profit margins.

You just have to keep trying with FL and Champs. I applied for three different Sportcheks and a Sport Mart back in the day and I never got calls back... and I'm pretty sure I have more product knowledge about shoes and hockey equipment than their current staff. I hate how they have sales who have never strapped on a pair of skates and played hockey working in the hockey department and trying to persuade me to buy some crappy gear.

I really don't want to get back into retail. Having to sell stuff wasn't my bag since I was happier working in a dealership unpaid than having to work retail paid and being consistently told to sell or clear out and fold a table of girls' shirts for half my shift.

Wow that's taking away your weekend then.(assuming your still fulltime in school)

So what are the chances of them calling you back after you've dropped off your resume?

Depends who you drop it off to. I judged people's resumes based on how they dropped it off. If you were polite and answered my questions well I would consider your application and file it away (it would help if you were a cute girl too.) On the other hand I've had guys come in as a group of three and only one guy would do the talking. His friends would just stand there aimlessly and then I would get a bundle of several resumes at once. Those go in the bin immediately after they leave.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I never gave you a discount in the first place. Buy a pair of shoes from Metro FL near the end of the night and ask for a discount. They'll SPC the shit out of your purchase in order to throw in spray and spenco. Current and former employees should know what I'm talking about hahahaha
