If you're going to be gone for 48 hours, you can bring back $400 worth of goods, including:

Only ONE of the following items can be imported both duty-free and tax-free:
1.5 litres (53 imperial ounces) of wine;
1.14 litres (40 ounces) of liquor;
a total of 1.14 litres (40 ounces) of wine and liquor; or
24 x 355 millilitre (12 ounce) cans or bottles (maximum of 8.5 litres) of beer or ale.

It would be WAY cheaper to buy the alcohol down in the States, but of course only buy the allowed amount.

Why bother replying when you don't know the answer?

Refer to this document to determine how much duty is assessed for types of items...

http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-com...-01-99-eng.pdf

Hmm, that's weird... it seems like the duty ranges from free to like 30¢/L depending on the type of alcohol... I thought it was way higher than that...

But you would be charged GST and PST on the purchase price though...

Stop by the Canadian duty free on the way down to Seattle and pickup some booze to drink while you are there. When u get there hit up a liquor store if u are looking for something special to bring back to Vancouver, if not then just hit up the US duty free on the way back home, it's pretty damn cheap.

Remember that you can only bring back 1.14L of liquor per head. You can pool that together with your other travellers and even break it down into various bottles (ie. 1x 750, 1x 350). Make sure you are staying 48 hours in the US or you will get taxed up the ass. One time I forgot that I was only away for 24 hours and I brought back an $80 bottle of wine, the duty and taxes (yes u will pay both) came to over $50. It wasn't a big bottle either, just a 750ml. Speaking of big bottles, last time I was in NYC I picked up a 1.75L bottle of Grey Goose from a store for $80... Good deal right? Hell yeah! A 750ml goes for $50 in Vancouver... Well when I was leaving NYC at the duty free in JFK they had the same bottle for only $55!!!!

Anyways good luck on the liquor hunting bro, in downtown Seattle near the domes there is a Costco. Unfortunately the Costcos in WA only sell beer and wine but across from that location there is a huge liquor warehouse. Check it out.

i picked up 2 1L bottles of goose from the us duty free on my way back into canada for only $32 each. if you take canadian cash with you the duty free will give you an exchange rate of $.85 us per canadian dollar.
