They said the same thing when Atlanta relaxed it's requirements but look at it this way:

Anyone who is a fuck up and therefore unfit to serve in the RCMP will demonstrate this. They'll show themselves to be someone who just cannot be a public servant in one way or another. Whether it be training or early job probation or at some point during their career. The RCMP has it's own internal policies for weeding out the bad ones and even though the media loves to focus on what the RCMP does wrong they do far more right.

Anyone who was a fuck up and allows the RCMP to turn their life around.. well.. hell. Thats just about the best case scenario, isn't it?

This isn't as bad as it's made out to be.

the police will not let people in if they have committed a crime they wont do again. People make mistakes its a part of life, as long as the person is reformed they will be allowed to start the process. They take a lie detector so they wont be able to lie about being reformed

rofl. what a generalizing statement. so ex-cons can be cops, as long as they dont plan on committing more crimes?

some people dont get second chances.

My brother is applying to the RCMP

He's a bully, LOVES to power trip whenever he can, has already told me stories of "staring people down" on ride alongs, and enjoys the thought of belittling people.

Soon to be pulling you over in a neighborhood near you :)

Don't worry, I have a cousin who's almost through that tells me if he pulls a porsche over with coke and a duffel bag of money in the trunk, he'll pull his gun, take the soft, and tell the driver to get the fuck out of his face

I'm not too sure if he's being serious or not

Why wouldn't he be?

I'm sure if his partner was like my brother, they'd split the money and who knows what they'd do with the drugs. My brother hates drugs, but only because he views anyone who does drugs as a failure. Even though most people my brother knows who has done drugs has been more successful than him.

I think most people would think my brother is a far more morally upstanding person than I am, but far less tolerant and authoritarian in the extreme. Kind of guy that would want to beat the shit out of a jaywalker.

If you got laid off during the recession, might as well give it a try. Starting pay is pretty good

....
why don't we just make all rapists, murderers, theifs, and undesirables in the system take the lie detector?

'yessir i promise not to commit crimes'

'he passed the lie detector he's going to be a model citizen from now on'

or geezes, i wonder if that'll work in court

' i've taken the lie detector your honour, i'm telling the truth! i won't rape babies anymore, can I go now? '

cococly 03-28-2009 05:12 PM

why don't they bother, just go to hire those residents in jail to become cops.

lie detectors are so overrated. innocent ppl can fail it. if the cop giving you the lie detector test is bias and think you are guilty, good luck passing it especially if you are innocent.

On the other hand psychopaths can pass lie detector test EASY.

Gh0stRider 03-28-2009 10:19 PM

People do stupid things before they have fully matured and if an agency was going to recruit only from perfect persons that would be a very small pool.

the RCMP have not lowered their standards one bit, it is still a very intensive background investigation and security screening.

i find it funny that rcmp even uses polygraphs considering that the courts have already said that the accuracy of polys are questionable. if i remember correctly, i think it's accuracy is 25%. which for a criminal is great. you have a 1/4 chance of getting off. but if you're innocent...you have a 3/4 chance of being found guilty for something you didnt do.

pretty stupid

saiko 03-29-2009 10:40 AM

If there's already quite a few unqualified police officers out there, wouldn't it get even worse in the next 2 years?!

Power corrupts people. Are there courses for people to take just to fully understand such a power and consequences of abuse?

Polygraph tests done by a trained professional are actually around 99-100% accurate.

you mean the extensive NINE week certification they get?

IfUCare 09-09-2009 10:37 PM

ahahaha, a polygraph is 99-100% accurate?
it's just nothing more then an inaccurate tool to measure your body's signal.
if you needed to take a shit during the test and tighten your anal sphincter muscle, your blood pressure goes up. Does that mean you're guilty?

It's nothing more then a scare tactic used by enforcement to scare people into telling them what they want/need to hear.
