i really dont think they lowered their standards in thinking they would be fnie with letting ex criminals into the rcmp. EVERYONE i know has done something illegal or immoral in their life. how else would we learn? we all have to make mistakes.. its all about repeat offenders and severity of the crime. Even if they defer you, it doesn't mean they are telling you to fuckoff and you aren't good to be a cop. They are just saying you aren't ready in the present moment.. ie PROVE IT(by waiting and improving yourself over the next x amount of years). If you were not cut out you would be permanently disqualfied.

I do think it is a bit harsh to defer someone or reject somone because his sisters friends bf smokes pot. i have a feeling that people who say they get deferred for that ONE reason isn't telling us everything. It was probably that along with other things that raised a red flag (ie. dirving record etc). All they want is to make sure that you ahve learned from your mistakes and it wont be a habit or issue in the future... ie.. how bad do you really wanna be a cop? From the people I have talked to who have been deferred, they all seem to have been deferred only ONE year... Municipal forces usually defer for at least 2 years.. so with that said, it's pretty leniant... Also, you may have been deferred for minor reason because the people you were up against were more squeaky clean than you are, and they can only accept a few cadets for the certain Division at that given time.

I know some people who I am surprised are police officers and got through the process.. there are some people I would have been just as surprised if DIDN'T get in. In every profession there are the bad ones... it's because cops hold such high authority is that every glitch and mistake is magnified by the media. Just think of all the immoral thing that goes on in the health system let alone the actual parliament!

I know people who are completely squeaky clean who would make worse cops than ones who aren't as clean...

I'd rather have cops who may have tried some pot in the past, at least most of them would realize it's not the super evil anti christ drug that a lot of people make it out to be and would deal with it as such.

i agree that experience is key... its kinda like those who have tried it done it and is ready to move on in their life are the ones more likely to refuse temptation in the future as they have already experienced such... at the same time i dont think they would want someone who is super and unrealistically perfect

That's the risk you run when you join a federal branch. If you want to stay local, join a city force.

And a friend of mine who went through it said that if you did some criminal offence type shit and admit to it, they will investigate it and you could quite possible land in jail. (ie current grow op etc.)

Very true. I heard of a aquaintance that admitted to having sex with his girlfriend while she was sleeping. She started moaning, so the guy thought she was enjoying it. After admitting to that, the examiner left the room and 2 mins later, 2 female officers came into the room and terminated him from ALL police forces in Canada. Apparently, its considered rape because he did not have consent.

That ones a tough TOUGH call. I think he should be able to appeal it or at least have hte gf come in. I would hate to be in that situation... Basically you're screwed regardless of how well you defend yourself. Woulddn't the gf wake up at least at some point? I mean comeon, I find it hard to believe she was asleep throughout the whole thing.. unless she was drunk and THAT'S another story.. and if that's the case, he deserves what he got.

If you are currently involved in a criminal act such as that, what the hell are you doing applying? Also, it's common sense what the police will overlook as a mistake, and what will be looked as a seriosu offense... Some people need to use some common sense.

haha even if he wants to tell, he signed a confidentiality agreement that prohibits him from saying much.

Anyway, by the time an applicant gets to the polygraph stage, there should be no "surprise answers" already as the applicant should have already gone through those questions a million times (from the disclosure questionaire and the interview).

Ezekiel 25:17. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.

Exactly...

All the guys are in here who think because you have a couple of small blemishes in your past, should exempt you from becoming a cop should move out of moms basement and start experiencing real life.

2 of my best friends have become RCMP officers in van over the last few years and id consider them to be very well rounded individuals, not too biased to either side of the track of life. Which is exactly where a cop should stand.

One of my buddies also wanted to get into the van area as a cop but got a placement in some tiny ass town in northern BC to babysit a few reserves for a couple of years. Its the risk you run when you sign up for the profession.
