1997 civic

Sorry to the mods if this is in the wrong forum.

I am having quite a few problems with my girlfriends 1997 civic dx.
now im pretty sure this problem is relevent to when she slipped on an ice patch and hit the curb with her rear passenger tire about a month ago. she hit it on such an angle that it wasn't full contact but more on diagonal way.
There has been a little bit of rumbling coming from the side that she curbed, didn't think it would be an issue.
Now after we had breakfast she was driving and out of nowhere i started hearing some grinding/scratching sound coming from the rear. Once we stopped i jacked up the car and spun the wheel around, I could hear it coming from the brake drum. its not an on going grinding sound, its more of *spin**spin**spin**grind/scratch**spin**spin**spin**grind*. when we were driving it was fine for a bit then started again, it seems as if it only happens more when she makes a left turn and sometimes just comes out of nowhere.
if somebody could possible help me determine what the problem is that would be great!

Maybe a spring or something broke loose and is floating around in the brake drum? Wont be able to tell without pulling wheel and drum off
