Wheel cleaner safe for chrome?

As much as i love my rims, its a pain in the ass to clean! BBS style mesh rims, and to top it off, chrome!

anything; that actually works; i can spray on and apply to the wheels? i dont mind using the brush, bit even then it can only get so much dirt off, even a tooth brush is only so good. and yes i do take very good care of them wheels =)

A decently good wheel cleaner product, that wont kill my wallet, but isnt so cheap that i question if its made in china.

No, i didnt clean them before taking a picture... yes i know they are dirty. yes it was raining earlier

Ken told me himself that anything he carries he's used and approves of

!SG 03-31-2009 01:18 PM

its not a large enough lip! if i knew what i know now when i bought the wheels, i would have went with a 20x11 +43 5in lip

p21s wheel gel to clean it, and seal the wheels to help future cleaning, than after you can just use a stronger soap dilution to clean, swissvax wheel brushes are nice for the face of the rims

911fanatic 03-31-2009 03:04 PM

I carry P21S spray(19.75), P21S Gel(22.25), Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner ( my personal favorite-19.95) and Blackfire Gel Tire & Wheel Cleaner (15.95 ). You can top them with Poorboys Wheel Sealant (22.00)

when i had my chrome wheels, the guys on vipstylecars.com told me to use windex window cleaner, and then hot water afterwards to rinse without water spots.

Truenosan 04-09-2009 06:27 AM

I use an all purpose cleaner diluted with water.
spray on liberally, scrub, rinse off right away.

ok guys, thanx, im taking notes, and when i get a chance, ill swing out to get schooled some more...

what do you think about that meguirs chrome cleaner? its not a polish is it? i just happened to swing thru canadian tire (needed to pick up some lithium grease) and saw this stuff. is it even any good? i donno, when i hear polish, i think of other polishes which remove a little bit off... which i dont want!

thanx for all the help...

shoei:

mothers powercone: http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05146.html
mothers powermetal: http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05148.html (not sure if safe for chrome though)

thumper 04-09-2009 09:46 AM

and park the wheel on top of a clean piece of cardboard or similar so that your polishing stuff dosen't accidentally drag on the ground and pick up stuff that will scratch because you are so low-profile (i learned that the hard way)

Supafly 04-09-2009 10:35 AM

shoei, just clean it with windex and a good MF cloth.

yeah, you try that with like 20 spokes per wheel to clean in and around. my 2 dolla daiso brush is almost done for, need to look for a soft enough brissel thin brush to get around the spokes!

qwerty123 04-10-2009 06:50 PM

ez-detail wheel brush, swissvax wheel brush

TurboRX7 04-12-2009 03:29 PM

Sick wheels man.

I hear you there. I've got similar wheels, xxr 006's. The spokes are a paaaaain to clean!

coryjin 04-12-2009 05:35 PM

the meguires rim cleaners are great. most of the time i just spray on and rinse off but iff there real dirty i just use a car wash brush to give them a quick brush before i rinse. (i dont use the brush on my car lol only use it for rims so i dont have to bend down) and meguires also makes a rim cleaner specificaly for chrome rims

hmm, meguirs makes that yellow brush? hmm, let me see if i can get some dimension details. its has to be small enough to fit in the space between the spokes, roughly slightly under an inch.

They will fit trust me. It surprised me the first time I used it. My sisters jetta has rims that just barely go over the brakes and it surprised the hell out of me when I found it was able to fit. It should definitely fit, the tire brush they have in the package is excellent as well. Definitely gets the tires clean and ready for dressing.

Good luck!

SpuGen 04-15-2009 05:07 PM

+1 on the meguiars brush.

Wax your wheels after. Then you won't have to worry about it so much.

!SG 04-16-2009 09:00 PM

i wax the wheels twice a year... before i put them away, and right before i put them on...

!SG 04-19-2009 08:01 PM

wow that meguires is a crazy package, but i can only see myself using one or 2 of those brushes.

i already have a tire scrubbing brush, pretty good one too. for interior haha, i snagged one of my sis's old makeup brushes :D. its awesome for getting into the vents! i use one of those swiffer things to dust the interior first.

anyhow, thanx for the suggestions guys, i just picked up the meguires wheels brush. gonna give that a try next car wash!

now gonna look into all those goodies ken has at his shop.

SSM_DC5 04-19-2009 10:40 PM

where did you pick up the package from? the link above say it's out of stock.

!SG 04-20-2009 01:23 PM

i picked up only the wheel brush. any place that carries meguires carries the brush.

i went to lordco.
