But seriously. Can you imagine how strong of a deterrent it'd be if those Bacon brothers were tied to a pole in Robson Square, and ALL british columbians were allowed to publicly stone them to death? That'd be fucking awesome. I'm sure even grandpas would love crushing in a gangster's skull with a boulder.

I can see where that might be a problem on an underground system. However most stations are above ground and they could easily make all 3 sides of the station into turnstyles with the 4th left for stairs. Quote:

The skytrain coming to Richmond was the worst possible thing that could have happened to Richmond. Crime will double here as soon as that thing opens.

Why must you continually use Singapore as a point of Comparison? Singapore's draconian laws are enabled almost entirely by virtue of the fact that they are a tiny island nation with almost complete control of what comes in and out of their nation's ports (air and sea).
Neither Vancouver nor Canada are comparable in this way, so why would you continue to do that?
