The End of Christian America The End of Christian America The percentage of self-identified Christians has fallen 10 points in the past two decades. How that statistic explains who we are now—and what, as a nation, we are about to become......long read but good http://www.newsweek.com/id/192583?GT1=43002 |
Well America was built on Christian values by their forefathers and that is something that will never change. |

Interesting read btw. :) Imho this is for the good of the nation and the world. Look what the Bible-thumpers got us. Creationism, George W. re-elected, stem-cell bans, banning of gay marriage.. they've become the laughingstock of the world. And now they're about to get pwned as a result. Look how far USA has fallen behind compared to say 50 years ago. Unfortunately they're no longer the great nation they used to be. Hopefully Obama will change that, but only time will tell. Basically, religion was founded as a bunch of stories to explain stuff back in tha day when stuff couldn't be explained because the science at the time wasn't advanced enough. That may have worked for millennia, but times have changed in the last few hundred years with the Industrial Revolution and the Age of Technology. The religious right have tried to slow this progress (Crusades anyone?) but in the end, science beats out religion pretty much every single time. Not bashing religion (I have absolutely no problem with people who have faith), but saying some ancient book MUST be right just because it's printed in there is just plain ignorant. |

On the other hand, it has also led to the highest teenage pregnancy rates, unwed mothers, 25% of the world's prison population... Religion has it's uses... ;) Keep in mind, it's not like the unbelievers in America are free-thinkers, they are anything but. They just switched from Christianity to MTVianity, otherwise known as the culture of stupidity. |

You have no idea how wrong you are. Non religious people are free thinkers, and the sooner religion is abolished, the better off the world will be. |
I thought the title read "The End of Christina Aguilera" http://www.faniq.com/images/blog/chr...llen-02(1).jpg |

It's truly sad, but I must say I agree with him if I'm interpreting him correctly. Look at people here. Look at how many people in this town (sorry if I offend anyone) who don't know what's going on in this world other than the NHL schedule or Hills or whatever. |
There are stupid people everywhere, some are religious and some aren't. The majority of the world's brightest minds happen to be non-religious these days. Not to say that religious people are stupid (although they are in a way, but in a different way). |

knew that couldn't be right... |

The biggest problem is that people take the Bible, or any other holy books, too literally. They don't think, they just follow blindly. THAT'S the problem. Religion is a good thing but as soon as people make bad interpretations, it can ruin everything. |
Religion is full of bullshit. without it good ppl will still do good things and bad ppl will still do bad things. Only religion can make a good person do bad things. |

He meant that a good person may do bad things because of religion, such as if your child said they were gay, a good person, who happened to be religious, would do a bad thing, such as disowning them, or killing them or something, because it is against their religion to be gay. Whereas a good non-religious person would simply support their child in whatever choices they make. |
should we bring up the story where the father beheaded his child to "save" him? |
Christians also love to give people the "Good Person Test" with questions like this Quote:
Quote:
Drama-generating Techniques 1. Question the Bible. 2. Ask what year Jesus was born. 3. Ask if he's a bastard child. 4. Ask how many people were at his tomb. 5. Ask why a crucified criminal was put in a tomb instead of a mass grave. Fun-fact if they can't answer: One of his followers paid for the tomb. 6. Make note of their homophobia. 7. Remind them of their latent homosexuality. 8. Ask why the talking snake is literal but Jesus' command to sell everything they own is metaphorical. 9. Give an intelligent, well-researched explanation of Einstein's views on religion. 10. Give an intelligent, well-researched explanation of Hitler's views on religion. 11. Give an intelligent, well-researched explanation of anything. 12. Give unintelligent, poorly-researched explanations of everything. 13. Ask if Cain and Abel had sex with each other or Eve to make more people. 14. Point out that, based on the appearance of every other individual in the area he was born, Jesus was clearly either black or brown. 15. Point at the gold cross dangling from their necklace and accuse them of worshipping a graven idol. (A golden one, no less!) 16. Say that Christians are tools of the Jewish-dominated Neoconservatives in control of the Republican Party. 17. Say that Mary was likely only a technical virgin, considering that Jews circa 5 BCE were highly patriarchial. 18. Say that Christianity is nothing but Judaism, version 2.0... 19. ... and thus, Islam must be Judaism, version 3.0. 20. Gently wipe the tears that begin pouring from their eyes. |

The only thing worse than people who follow religion blindly, are the athiest who think they are better or more enlightened because they don't believe in religion. |

maybe being me being atheist is not going to help this argument. All religion are an ancient and powerful form of mind control. In the beginning there were many many religions, it is either pharse out because its explanation for how thing happen doesn't keep up wiht the time thus can no long mind control the mass or it is overthrown by new ruler of particular culture and replace by a new religion (design by the ruler to mind control in his way). All is it is a constantly update rules to dictate how one NEEDS to live his/her life. I fail to see how an atheist is less enlightened when they can make up their own decision of things base of various source of information + personnal experience instead of being a sheep and follow without question. Not to mention most major invention and discovery and made by people who challenge the religion at the time. |

Scientists & philosophers deal with questions which may not have answers. Religions provide answers which must never be questioned. |
