Build a power rig

im looking to build a rig via most likely NCIX consisting of parts totalling under $3000 for the tower alone

just looking for a couple suggestions in terms of motherboards and SLI video cards etc.

most likely going with the Intel Core i7 Extreme Edition 965 Nehalem 3.2GHz as my processor then on from there

Try getting 2 raptors and putting them into raid 0. Then use the 1TB for backup..Get the extreme edition of the i7 because they come unlocked for overclocking XD.

make sure to get a full tower if you aren't water cooling. there is going to a lot of heat coming out of your build.

make sure to price match ncix at other places. price match online only. the sales reps usually refuse price matches in person.

directcanada.com
bestdirect.ca
tigerdirect.ca
newegg.ca

ncix saturday sales usually have the best savings.

if bestbuy has any of the components, price match it there. they'll give you 10 percent of the difference off your purchase. that is if you care. with 3000 for a build i doubt you do. hahaha

i'm religious towards buying evga products. mobos and gpus included. With well built products and A-grade support, you can't go wrong.

might as well just go for a SSD instead of raptor
920 is enough if you plan to overclock

^ read some reviews...the WD velociraptors perform better than the SSD

SSD is just in between the old raptors and new raptors

from what ive been reading the difference really isnt THAT much for an average user, but in a build like this i might as well go for the big shot

the build is at like 2900 for tower alone

I was looking at the velociprator 150gb earlier, but the price is stopping me from getting it.

What are the pros and cons having normal 7.2K rpm sata drive at raid0?

- from what I read, raid0 will have a higher risk of disk failure.
- it's cheaper, hell yeah.
- double the size, hell yeah.

Make sure to price match!!! You'll save at least 10% off the total bill. Probably 50-70% on accessories.
