Mazda2 confirmed for Canada!

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...ory/WBdriving/

NEW YORK – The Mazda2, a slick little subcompact sold in Europe and Asia, is coming to Canada, confirmed Mazda Motor Corporation president and CEO Takashi Yamanouchi.

“I've just decided,” said Yamanouchi, a 42-year veteran of Mazda who assumed the top job last November.

The Globe and Mail is the first news outlet to confirm that the Mazda2 will join Mazda Canada' lineup. The announcement was not part of formal Yamanouchi's formal remarks during press days for the New York International Auto Show at the Jacob Javits Centre.

While Yamanouchi would not confirm an exact launch date, sources suggest the Mazda2 would go on sale within the next year. It is designed to compete against the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent and Chevrolet Aveo, among others.

Demio ftw! That one looks hot.

S1 S2 04-11-2009 12:27 PM

The question is..will it look the same as the jdm ones..or will they have usdm Mazda2 with different front and rear bumpers that will look like shit..

+Kardboard+ 04-11-2009 12:30 PM

JDM ones look boring until you play with them, no? Same old, same old. :p

InvisibleSoul 04-11-2009 01:08 PM

Some serious resemblance with the Yaris...

With a Toyota badge, that could easily be a facelifted Yaris.

monkeywrench 04-11-2009 02:05 PM

why are all the sportier versions 5 door instead of a coupe style? same with a yaris.. they offer RS but only for 4/5 door?

+Kardboard+ 04-11-2009 02:26 PM

I can dig the Yaris REVscene trim.

Agreed... thought the white one of the left was a Yaris when I first glanced, lol

you guys need to check your eyes more often. I see this car everyday in asia, it's quite
eye catching and no whatever yaris resemblance. You should say it looks similar to
peugoet 306, but definitely not yaris.

I prefer the new Honda Fit. The back of mazda 2 doesn't look too safe when it gets rear ended.

I see my Yaris everyday, and I think this Mazda 2 has serious resemblance to it.

Obviously it's not identical... but the side and three-quarter rear profile gives off some very similar body lines.

egg shape hatchback is like people in the 70s wear bell bottom pants...it's just a trend
even the new Fit has similar look

They should have the same bumpers as the Euro version, since Canada just assimilated their bumper laws with Europe's.

thumper 04-12-2009 04:52 PM

does this mean the ford fiesta would be here also, since they are related?

wahyinghung 04-12-2009 06:22 PM

Finally they make it official !

orange7 04-13-2009 01:53 AM

would the canadian version look just as good at the euro version??

hmm.. i doubt it

?NR 04-13-2009 07:58 PM

..atleast they don't look overly "happy" unlike their siblings.

+1

at first glance, it really does look like a souped up yaris.

AzNightmare 04-13-2009 09:59 PM

Looks pretty nice. But it will look ugly once they "happy face" it just like their current NA Mazda line up

orgasm_donor 04-14-2009 09:55 AM

Those super small sub-compact cars don't really do it for me. But I do understand thier true purpose.

time_traveller 04-14-2009 11:10 AM

Cool, with this and the Scion xD coming to Canada in 2010, it's gonna be a great year for people choosing between sub-compacts.
