but yeah, i delete ppl on a regular basis...if i havnt talked to them in a while, ill simply delete them without blocking them, if i really need to talk to them 99% chance ill have their cell number and ill just text them.

Hmm, I should clean out my list. Too many old, odd acquaintances that I never really talked to in real life in the first place. :/

I am way too lazy to bother to delete people. I have like 200 people that have new accounts/never go online and like over 20 people I don't even know. How they got on my list, I have no idea.

imo, always being in away mode defeats the purpose. You might as well always be online mode or something.

People who actually talk to you on a regular basis are going to realize your status doesn't mean anything and they'll message you anyways.

Those who you don't talk to you might not realize it, but then why the hell do you have them on your list in the first place if you're not going to talk to them?

As for appear offline, it's good to use sometimes. But to use it all the time? You're not that popular.

always being in away mode allows you to chose who you want to talk to. same thing with being busy. do you find that when you're online those same 2-3 people always message you? well that happens to me. i don't even want to talk to them. they're not even good friends/ they're just acquaintances. Being away or busy lets you talk to who you want to.

and how does appearing offline make you NOT popular? one would think if you appeared offline you were more than popular. because no matter your status someone is always messaging you. therefore, you need to appear offline and you can selectively choose who you want to talk to.

ie. the best example for this is if you're doing homework or studying, but you still need the help of some people in the class. you appear offline or away or busy so people don't bother you. only the peopel in the same class that can help you.

It makes perfect sense to me. People that actually talk to you, know that your "away" status is BS and doesn't mean anything. But you are right about how it allows you to not to people you don't want to.

yet people who have the intention of looking for you for a purpose can still msg u! (offline messages are for that purpose as well, but say for example, mac version of windows messenger does not support offline messaging [yes, other 3rd party messengers can, i know])

and if you message people, people can still respond! if i receive a message while im actually away, and the person is "offline" when i return, i will not reply

Because I leave my computer on 24/7, it would be too much of a hassle for me to constantly change modes anyway.

I hate the people that put long poems or music lyrics as their msn names. They are the reason why I changed my MSN to view all my contacts as emails instead of nicknames.

The "away/busy" mode just gives people a polite excuse should they choose not to respond (for whatever various reasons pertaining to that day). Pretty simple concept.

Or it could be like my situation where my computer is on idle for days on end.

i'm online 24/7 and just use @Home, @Work etc.

If people can't read, they're idiots, and if they rename me, too bad as well
