^^^ The UNO W Design Fiber double wax is pretty awesome. It has two parts - You have a fibre gum to work some volume and control into your hair, and a hard wax to define the tips.

I don't get why people say Gatsby Air Rise doesn't work. Do people not look at the descriptions for the products anymore? It's not for crazy gravity defying hold for super saiyan hair, it's used to give longer hair a bit of volume and texture by gathering strands into clumps.
In other words, it works but not for what you're trying to do with it.
Anyways, on to the OP's question. Hair spray and wax typically don't work too well together if you apply wax first, then use hairspray. You're basically covering up the hair strands' surfaces with wax and that prevents the hairspray from clinging to the hair strand the way it was meant to. In order for it to work you wind up using way more hairspray than you'd normally need, and that's just bad for the environment (and wallet)!
Solution? Spray the roots first, then define tips with wax. It's easier to rub out the hair spray and define the tips with wax by using your thumb and forefinger. If you really need the hard hold of hairspray as opposed to the flexible wax, then you need it at the roots. Think of it like a building. The bottom supports the top parts, so you should reinforce the bottom. Back combing also helps but it's pretty harsh on your hair and is only necessary for longer hair styles.
Like miss_crayon's brother, I use Got2B hair spray, and some korean brand mugen gets! wax.

I use this Tresemme wax that works pretty well as a Gatsby substitute since my local T&T gets it on rare occasions (last time it did, I got pink and grey, but next time I'm trying blue). Havent been able to try out hairspray since it'd be a waste if I'm playing rugby.

anyone know where to get sebastian clay locally?
it seems like the sebastian clay doesnt leave an oily residue on the hair when i wash it off where as the gatsby clays makes my hair feel oily and sticky even after shampooing 2-3 times.

gatsbys are most common however its not a good quality for your hair.
try schevastian(Clay) or nakano(all kinds). you just need a decent hair spray.
as long as it just holds good, thats it.
