apparently no one on RS cares about the riot there.

it was fine on good Friday when I was watching the news, the red-clothed protesters
were camping at bangkok and only some were marching to Pattaya. Tourists all
said "nah, it should be fine, as long as they don't take over the airport like last time"

Then it went downhill at the South Asia Conference where leaders from China, Japan,
Korea supposed to meet up. The craziest thing was those protesters tried to hijack the
tank while it was moving, then you see bombs going off everywhere.

well tbh, whatever happens in thailand doesnt negatively impact the rest of the world to that big a degree. its not the middle east, its not genocide, and it doesnt involve a major power. its civil unrest with one guy dead - pretty tame on those terms.

I think the 10's of thousands of people who went to Thailand for their easter vacation made a really bad decision. I knew something like this would happen.. Apparently a lot of people changed their minds, but the tours they signed up for didn't give refunds, so they went anyway.

^ my co-worker just came back from Bangkok yesterday night, she said the trip was fine, no delay or whatsoever. The street looks as calm as there's nothing ever happened. Except they skipped the shopping at night, and went to the shemale show.

That's just Thai politics. I can't remember the exact stats, but I think every gov't in the last 40 years has been overthrown save one. Corruption is rampant. I think there is a lot more happening behind the scenes moreso than red shirts vs. yellow. I think a lot of the problems stem from the Royal Palace. They are not a true democracy and he runs shit from the back room. The people are all truly devoted to the king. That's power you can't buy. What's the saying regarding absolute power?
